Clockworks, Shawn‘s new comic, has launched.
“Share and enjoy.”
Shamus Young is an old-school OpenGL programmer, author, and composer. He runs this site and if anything is broken you should probably blame him.
Ding! Share and enjoy!
Also, is the silhouette of the “bad guys” supposed to remind me of the Team Fortress 2 group shot? Because it is.
Does the middle guy have a clockwork bow? Like with pulleys and such? Or do they have explosive gunpowder arrowheads or trail wires to his hip battery pack?
Because … bows are so 11th century, man.
Jeez, now that I think about it, yeah. Bringing a bow to a gunfight, much?
Awww, I didn’t even bug you to post this.
Yeah, the middle guy has a bow. It’ll be explained eventually.
And the silhouettes are mainly just there to establish early on the fact that I’ll be doing silhouettes a lot.
Incidentally, if you ever get bored and build the Clockworks characters in CoH or Sims 3 or something and want to do a guest strip, let me know.
Totally off topic, sorry. Is it just me or has TwentySided gotten incredibly slow in loading lately?
It’s not just you
I concur: The site is very slow. This is even true on the admin pages I use, which don’t load the theme, the ads, the sitemeter, or any other off-site cruft that might be slowing things down. The fault is on the server itself. I first noticed it this past weekend, but I’m not sure when it really began.
Also OT, but since we’re already turning this into tech-support (and since Shamus is what we on the outside would call an “insider”): Is it just me, or is the Escapist site kinda dead today? As in “cannot load page”-dead?
re: Clockworks: Nice! Good to see Shawn putting out some stuff again, he has a pretty distinct style going, and a mind that is going places!
Also nice to see there’s no hard feelings or bad fallout or somesuch over the CB-thing, and that even in the cold, clinical age of the internet, true friendship can prevail!
It’s been slow for weeks for me. It’s like Twenty Sided switched servers with OotS. And it doesn’t behave like it used to. If I click on a link, and then click Back (or just hit Refresh), it takes me to the top of the page, rather than where I was reading.
Re: Clockworks: Nice! I’ll be interested to see where it goes.
I’m not having any trouble with loading the site.
On an unrelated note: can we please get a votekick plugin for the tf2 servers? We had several trolls we couldn’t dump today.
Sorry to heap on another site-related comment. I don’t have problems with the site being slow, but oftentimes when I try to go to the site, I get a “could not load the site” error, but when I go again, it loads just fine. Haven’t thought to troubleshoot, but if I get the chance/feel like I’ll give a shot and report back any findings. Honestly, I suspect it’s DNS somewhere along the line, so it’s prolly nothing anyone else has to worry about, but you never know.
Also, Clocksworks looks pretty good! I did like Shawn’s artwork on Chainmail Bikini, so, you know….
(Sorry to double-post.) Yep, it was a DNS problem on my end like I thought. Apparently, every now and then when I make a name lookup request for twentysided, my ISP’s DNS will return a timeout error. Like I said, nothing for anyone else to worry about.
Shawn’s a good artist. I hope it goes well for him. (Or maybe I should use the second person, since I see he’s reading the thread.)
Good stuff, man.
Thanks for all the kind words and well wishes! And yeah, 20sided was running reeeeaaaallly slow for me yesterday as well.
The second comic is already up. Normally the new comics are scheduled for 7 AM on Tuesday and Thursdays, but I was up late and figured I’d post it now.
I concur on the site loading slowly but it has been acting this way since May. If you check your email Shamus I believe I sent you an email on that very subject in early May.
The second looks great, Shawn. Looking forward to more. Really missed your art style.
Completely off topic:
Michael Jackson has died at the age of 50.
MintSkittle will leave this on one hundred and one blog posts today. It is the most fitting tribute he could imagine.

You can enclose spoilers in <strike> tags like so: <strike>Darth Vader is Luke's father!</strike>
You can make things italics like this: Can you imagine having Darth Vader as your <i>father</i>?
You can make things bold like this: I'm <b>very</b> glad Darth Vader isn't my father.
You can make links like this: I'm reading about <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darth_Vader">Darth Vader</a> on Wikipedia!
You can quote someone like this: Darth Vader said <blockquote>Luke, I am your father.</blockquote>
