DM of the Rings Remastered CX: Roleplaying, at Last
This week I’ve played more Deep Rock Galactic. I kind of assumed I would be done with it by now, but it turns out shooting bugs takes a lot longer to get bored of than I thought.
I also played R.E.P.O. there’s something so delightful about being silly little robots, trying not to break every valuable item, while running away from various things that want to kill them.

It is finally time to finish out the Elfheim story and prepare for the next quest. Although technically, the next quest is the prep quest for accessing the rest of the map. It’s hidden behind A) completing the game to this point, as you have to finish this story to get access to a quest item you don’t know you need to finish a quest in an area you’re not sure the location of but have heard about. Technically you have access to this place, and could have got pointers to the quest item you will receive soon, but then again; you may not have gone that direction yet. B) Figuring out that all that stuff is connected…it’s obtuse, but *not impossible*.
We stopped last week by returning to Elfheim City, the possible location of Elfheim Castle. The Elf Elf King in the Dark Castle to the Westnorth claimed his castle was ruined, and if we returned the crown to him from where it was hidden in the third level of Marsh Cave, he could restore it and fix all the other various problems with his kingdom. This didn’t 100% jive with everything else we saw and heard, such as the citizens of Elfheim City not really being aware at all of the Dark Castle. The Elf Prince is magically asleep in the Castle near Elfheim City, so I don’t know for sure what’s going on. But we were about to tackle the lowest level of Marsh Cave last time, so that’s where we’re going.

This week has been just Deep Rock Galactic.
It’s just a good game. I thought I would have more to say, but I still have some effects from being sick so brain no work. After I’m done writing this I am going to try R.E.P.O. which as far as I can tell is like Lethal Company, but with more physics.

I have ordered new glasses! That probably shouldn’t be such an accomplishment but I was raised in a very rural area and usually had to travel quite a bit to achieve a glasses prescription and a new pair of frames and lenses. Beyond that I was raised in a frugal, cash-strapped but not-really-poor household, so everything was typically pushed as far as it could go. While finances could probably have sorted out a new pair of glasses, which I’ve needed for a while, before now; *other* things just kept taking priority whether they should have or not. Honestly my new prescription is only slightly different from the previous one dated around 2020. However I should also share that I’m not currently wearing my current prescription. The glasses I got in that prescription were poorly-made and uncomfortable and the lenses got damaged early on. The prior glasses were the same prescription, but I was insistent on getting a style that didn’t support my prescription and just couldn’t be worn all day…they were just too small. That was my fault. So mostly for the past three years I’ve been wearing some glasses from *two* prescriptions ago, that also happen to be very sturdy. Sure, I have trouble focusing on small print and have to adjust where the glasses sit on my nose to see things (this prompted two experiments in bifocal transition lens that did not work; they gave me a headache), but I can drive safely. Or at least, that’s what I tell people. Hopefully this will help with my “hunching” problem at the computer, too.

A stream-of-gameplay review of Dead Island. This game is a cavalcade of bugs and bad design choices.
What makes this borderline indie title so much better than the AAA juggernauts that came before?
How do you know the rules of the game are what the game claims? More importantly, how do the DEVELOPERS know?
There are two major schools of thought about how you should write software. Here's what they are and why people argue about it.
Let's do some scripting to make the Starcraft AI fight itself, and see how smart it is. Or isn't.
I wanted to take the file format of a late 90s shooter and read it in modern-day Unity. This is the result.
Yes, this game is loud, crude, childish, and stupid. But it it knows what it wants to be and nails it. And that's admirable.
The plot of this game isn't just dumb, it's actively hostile to the player. This game hates you and thinks you are stupid.
Here is a long look at a game that tries to live up to a big legacy and fails hilariously.
C++ is a wonderful language for making horrible code.
