DM of the Rings Remastered CXLI: The Moment of Truth
Depending on when and where you grew up professional wrestling had some impact on your life, it just depends how much. The “sport” has grown and shrunken in popularity several times over the years due to many reasons that I’m not smart enough to properly speculate on. Wrestling has affected politics in Japan and Mexico. Wrestling has affected legislation of law regarding workers’ rights, steroid use, and many other avenues of import. Wrestling has launched careers in other industries such as music and acting. And unfortunately, wrestling has graced this world with some of the least tolerable human beings alive reaching the pinnacle of success and wealth. It gives and it takes. However there’s one thing that you may or may not be aware of that the wrestling industry has brought to us. Those goof-asses in tights have graced us with lots of lingo that you may or may not be using effectively. Well, today I’m going to enrich your vocabulary.

This week I’ve been once again too busy to play anything except a little bit of Slay the Spire.
Mostly jut slamming my head against the wall trying to get past ascension 13.
I have also kept playing a bit of Half life 2. Nothing really new there, except that I realized that you can take DOG’s ball thru Ravenholm. It’s not very useful but it’s fun that the zombies try to attack it instead of you.
I’m also posting this late due to internet troubles.
How is everyone else?
I’m about halfway through the Freddy Krueger/A Nightmare on Elm Street article, but got overwhelmed by circumstances. As an example, we were gonna have a birthday dinner last night with my father. Since making Thanksgiving (United States) plans last week went so well, my Mother agreed to let my Dad’s surviving siblings have a get-together at their house earlier in the day. There’s a whole history here that makes this challenging and problematic, mostly centered around all of them being in their 80’s and dealing with a variety of physical needs and debilitation. THEN there’s the mental and emotional side, which has a lot more to do with my Dad’s family being extremely opinionated and sharing some kind of religio-social-family-centered narcissism. Basically as long as you can keep the air out of their tires (don’t let them all get together at once, keep the circumstances tightly controlled, distract them constantly, etc.) it can be managed. But right after my Mother decided to let this happen, people started coming out of the woodwork wanting to come as well. My Mom had to explain several times this was a limited, short gathering because THEY HAD TO LEAVE THE HOUSE only a few hours later.
So I ended up driving over and spending several hours distracting people. Once everyone made it past “let’s all go eat lunch together at a restaurant (they can’t because of naps, dietary needs)” and someone brought up that one of the family members had to be back at her assisted living facility pretty quick I took my leave and came home. I was still running behind chores at home because of sudden changes in work schedules, but I didn’t really get to catch up at that point. I had a handful of remnants of a work-related pot-luck Thanksgiving Meal to clean up, but the large portable roaster was involved and that takes multiple steps to clean properly before it can be put away. We also had turkey broth to finish off and put away, so the stock pot was out, etc. You get tired of washing every cooking pot in the house every day, sometimes.
AND I just now remembered that laundry is ready to switch over to the dryer and start another load. So I’m working on a backlog of chores from the last several days and will finish the Freddy Krueger piece ASAP. Central theme: What *IS* Freddy Krueger? Considering Freddy starts out the closest to supernatural (or paranormal, befitting the overall theme), I think you could argue he changes the most of the big three slashers within the series.
My week was hell. I’ve been sick and miserable. I don’t have anything thought provoking or interesting to share this week as my brain has mostly been concentrating on keeping my insides in the inside. However, I would like you all to have something to engage with this week. So I will leave you with a prompt for your discussion in the comments. Give me your answer and show your work. I want details.
Which 1998 classic is the best? Banjo Kazooie? Half Life? MGS? There are no right answers. You’re all wrong. It’s Glover. Have fun.
This week was a bit more Slay the Spire, with a few other things on the side.
First off, I finally beat the game as the Watcher. I got a Pressure Point build going while also removing all of the attack cards, including Wrath. I also got Calipers early on, so I just focused on blocking with the occasional Pressure Point for damage.
I also attended the MTG Prerelease that Ethan posted about the other day. I think I finally have at least a lose grasp of the many, many intricacies and rules of Magic the Gathering. Which means that I have a better understanding of just how much more everyone knows than me. I think out of the 24 matches I played, I won 2. On the other hand, most of the people I played against were actually really nice, and willing to explain some of the more niche rules as they came up. Overall I had fun, and I might go to another Magic event sometime.
Lastly I’ve for some reason decided to play a bit of Half-life 2. I guess I’m just achievement hunting at this point, there’s a few achievements that I never bothered to get, and I don’t really have any other reason to play it.
So, How’s everyone else this week?
I wanted to take the file format of a late 90s shooter and read it in modern-day Unity. This is the result.
Why is internet news so bad, why do people prefer celebrity fluff, and how could it be made better?
My picks for what was important, awesome, or worth talking about in 2013.
Back in 1999, I rode the dot-com bubble. Got rich. Worked hard. Went crazy. Turned poor. It was fun.
The product of fandom run unchecked, this novel began as a short story and grew into something of a cult hit.
Grand Theft Auto is a lousy, cheating jerk of a game.
A programming project where I set out to make a Minecraft-style world so I can experiment with Octree data.
A music lesson for people who know nothing about music, from someone who barely knows anything about music.
Yeah, this game is a classic. But the story is idiotic, incoherent, thematically confused, and patronizing.
Denuvo videogame DRM didn't actually kill piracy, but it did stop it for several months. Here's what we learned from that.
