Crass Merchandising
My wife has discovered Zazzle, a site along the lines of CafePress. You upload your stuff, and they put it onto a t-shirt or mug or whatnot for sale. Zazzle offers more options and a bigger cut of the proceeds. (Not that I’ve sold anything yet, I’m just going by what I see in the fine print.) She’s been filling her Zazzle account with her photographs and watercolor paintings. (I love this one.) Merchandising aside, she seems to enjoy the process of making this stuff for its own sake. Having exhausted her supply of material to merchandise, she’s decided to set up a DMotR store.

NumOrgans−−
I got through surgery and had my gallbladder removed.
Wow. That was rough. I’m never doing that again.
Thanks so much for the well-wishes from my friends and fellow bloggers who wished me luck. Thanks also to the well-wishers in the comments. Over a hundred wishes for speedy recovery. This is the ‘net equivalent of waking up in a hospital room full of flowers. Thanks again.
I’m alive and semi-coherant. I’m not allowed to run or lift heavy things for a week, which will not impact my lifestyle in any way whatsoever. The doctor may just as well have forbidden me to do any alligator wrestling. Moving heavy objects? Running? Do I look like Gordon Freeman to you?
Read on for the rest of the messy details. Continue reading 〉〉 “NumOrgans−−”
DM of the Rings CXXVII:
An Offer You Can’t Refuse
Headline Spoilers
I keep seeing news stories here and there, musing about possible endings to the Harry Potter series. Everyone keeps wondering, WILL HARRY DIE?!?!?!
Now, I’ve only read the first book and seen a few of the movies, and I am far from an expert on Harry Potter, but this sounds ridiculous to me. I don’t believe for a minute the author would kill off the main character at the end of the series. This is nominally a series for teens and tweens. It is serious in points, but it has a lighthearted tone in many places. I think it would be out of character for her to kill off the beloved and heroic young orphan protagonist at the end of the series. I just can’t see her suddenly turning dark and edgy here at the end of the tale.
Although if he DOES die, I’m sure those same headlines will be more than happy to spoil it for me in large block letters.
grumblegrumble.
If Star Wars Was Made in 2006?
Imagine if the original Star Wars hadn't appeared in the 1970's, but instead was pitched to studios in 2006. How would that turn out?
D&D Campaign
WAY back in 2005, I wrote about a D&D campaign I was running. The campaign is still there, in the bottom-most strata of the archives.
Quakecon 2011 Keynote Annotated
An interesting but technically dense talk about gaming technology. I translate it for the non-coders.
Fixing Match 3
For one of the most popular casual games in existence, Match 3 is actually really broken. Until one developer fixed it.
Bad and Wrong Music Lessons
A music lesson for people who know nothing about music, from someone who barely knows anything about music.
The Mistakes DOOM Didn't Make
How did this game avoid all the usual stupidity that ruins remakes of classic titles?
Batman v. Superman Wasn't All Bad
It's not a good movie, but it was made with good intentions and if you look closely you can find a few interesting ideas.
Stolen Pixels
A screencap comic that poked fun at videogames and the industry. The comic has ended, but there's plenty of archives for you to binge on.

Raytracing is coming. Slowly. Eventually. What is it and what will it mean for game development?
