I mentioned recently that my wife and I just celebrated our 10-year anniversary. The music during the ceremony was performed by a string quartet. Looking back, this was probably my favorite aspect of the entire ceremony. (Except for the, you know, wife part.) I’ve never been much for wedding music, but I really enjoyed this. Pachelbel Canon in D was our wedding march, so I found this to be very funny:
The guy in the video above is complaining about the cello part of the piece, which I guess is quite dull to play. Our cellist was my cousin, who now works at Red Hat. I mention this because I know some readers here are familiar with him and I thought that would be an interesting bit of trivia.
A further note is that our violinist went on to be part of Shania Twain‘s band, and performed on the Tonight Show a few years later. It was kind of strange seeing someone on TV and thinking, “Wow. He performed at my wedding.”
I can’t say enough good things about the string quartet. If you find yourself getting married and don’t want to go with organ music, I think this is a great way to go.

The Dumbest Cutscene
This is it. This is the dumbest cutscene ever created for a AAA game. It's so bad it's simultaneously hilarious and painful. This is "The Room" of video game cutscenes.
That is a hilarious bit about Pachelbel, although it requires a certain level of music geek-ness. I almost feel bad for the guy, though, because it is so popular now that no matter what great new funny stuff he comes up with, he’s ALWAYS going to be expected to do that bit at his show.
In brass groups, the tuba gets the honor of playing that part.
Thank God I didn’t pick tuba when I was young.
When I first saw this clip, I thought of an obvious derivative song that he forgot to include. Of course, I forget what it is now… :)
Immediately forwarded this to my best friend, who is a cello player. I’ve listened to this rant for years, as he made a lot of money in high school playing at weddings… and EVERYONE wants that song. Good to see it’s not just him. ;^)
This is hilarious! I’m a classically trained pianist, so very geekish on that count, but I’m familiar with enough of the derivatives to enjoy the clip! Thanks!
I’m a violist in a quartet, and every time we rehearse our cellist whines about the Canon. Eventually we got sick of it, so we let him watch the TV we’d put behind the first violinist- as long as he’d leave it muted and keep the tempo. :)
That was great! The derivatives were especially entertaining.
Less about the clip, more about the wedding stuff. I got married four and a half months back, and Blaggards was our band.
Yes, it was as awesome as you can imagine.

When I was younger, I was determined to have Pachelbels Canon at my wedding. Unfortunately my husband is a former cello player, so GUESS what! Oh well, Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring is lovely too. Awesome clip, THANKS!
