DM of the Rings Remastered CXXIII: You Go, Girl

Not much to this one, but I had to play it fairly straight. There are a lot of funny things the Nazgul and Eowyn might say to each other, but the problem is that they are both NPCs being played by our hapless DM, and he would take this all very seriously. Once the story is over I think I’ll come back and re-visit this scene as a more direct parody.

We still miss Shamus Young to this day. :(

What’s up with the elephants in the background? They’re clearly not forming a battle line. Are they just wandering in random directions in the background shots? I don’t remember the movie well enough to tell.

    1. witteafval says:

This was near the end of the battle. The elephants were in an orderly line when they joined the battle, but that line didn’t hold once they engaged the riders of Rohan and, later, the undead army.

Yup, once the ghosts arrived, the Mordor forces are basically getting routed. Some are fleeing, some are fighting a last stand, some are trying to still win but have no idea which direction to advance in.

I’m not sure, but I think this comic is actually a little bit out of sequence?
If I remember right, the witch king brought down Theoden (forcing Eowyn to defend him as seen here) before the ghosts arrived via ship. But then the PCs wouldn’t have been there to witness the GM’s Awesome Writing That Doesn’t Involve Them.*
If that is the case, those oliphants in the images are in the middle of a big skirmish with the Rohirrim, chasing each other around and trying to keep the other side from reorganising.

*To be clear, I really like this scene in the movie. But in an RPG campaign, scenes like this have to involve the PCs or at least NPCs that the PCs really care about, neither of which is of course the case here.

You may already be aware but I just noticed… The “From the Archives” bit at the bottom still links to Escapist magazine posts that no longer exist…

Is it ok if I download these to a folder? I will still prefer viewing them on the site but it would make me feel better to have a backup. I will not reupload unless it were to help you recover in the event of data loss. This comic was very important to me at a very dark moment years ago.

And whether or not you approve of me backing it up, thank you for doing the remaster.
