DM of the Rings
Both a celebration and an evisceration of tabletop roleplaying games, by twisting the Lord of the Rings films into a D&D game.
Trekrospective
A look back at Star Trek, from the Original Series to the Abrams Reboot.
Charging More for a Worse Product
No, game prices don't "need" to go up. That's not how supply and demand works. Instead, the publishers need to be smarter about where they spend their money.
Bethesda NEVER Understood Fallout
Let's count up the ways in which Bethesda has misunderstood and misused the Fallout property.
Denuvo and the "Death" of Piracy
Denuvo videogame DRM didn't actually kill piracy, but it did stop it for several months. Here's what we learned from that.

Am I missing anything?
The comic works. Still missing the commentary.
There wasn’t any in the original version of this one, either. I’m guessing Bay didn’t have anything to add.
What else needs be said?
Boss, whole article missing!
Gah, fixed. We switched who was doing the file uploading and while my computer adds dashes between DM_of_the_rings, Issacs does not, so the image name changed and the site couldn’t find it.
Hah!
And here I was thinking that the advent of technology was supposed to make our lives easier xD
As usual, congratulations for your responsiveness!
I’ve tried reloading this page, but I’m still seeing an onward link to ‘Minecraft Complaints’ instead of GMotR LXIX.
Yup, all fixed, thanks for letting us know. All posts begin in the ‘random’ category, and you have to manually remove it and put in the new tag, but it’ll let you put in the new tag without removing random, which causes all sorts of issues.
Amusingly, the party was intended to fight the Balrog. Running away from that encounter was all on them.
So the DM’s smugness here is pretty justified.
I had to go back and check the page. They were intended to fight, but Gimli’s player points out that the Balrog seems to be so high above what the party can handle that he guesses Gandalf is clearly supposed to take care of it while the players’ characters watch. Instead of which, they run. So it’s an interesting question as to whether the party, per se, was supposed to fight (or would even be able to do anything), or just watch as Gandalf handled it. (It’s possible the DM had some cool boss fight mechanic that would allow the party to contribute, but with how this DM operates…)
It certainly remains true that they didn’t defeat the Balrog, or even really face it.
I mean, it worked for sir Robin… kinda.
I mean… There are opponents powerfull enough that the mere fact of being near one and fleeing to tell the tale is a praiseworthy feat achieved by few.
However, this is neither the party, nor GM that’d appreciate the concept.
