The Guild Wars 2 Headstart is officially live, which means you could be playing it right now if you pre-purchased. As promised, Twenty Sided has set up an official guild for the game. We’re based out of the Henge of Denravi server, and the guild name – since everyone seemed to like it so much – is Eikosi League [dXX]. If you’re looking to join, send a whisper to either Rason Johandy (Randy) or Jeran Extar (me) – or, if that fails and we’re offline, send us an in-game mail instead. We were playing some World vs World, but our server just took over the entire battleground, so… I think we picked the right server.

Hope to see you in game.

I still have an hour and thirsty minutes left before I can get in… damn I hate waiting.

    1. JPH says:

If the minutes are thirsty, you should definitely give them some water.

      1. anaphysik says:

Is it wrong that I didn’t even think that was a typo? My mind’s just so used to nonsensical adjectives being used as intensifiers, I guess.

    2. Cody211282 says:

This is what I get for thinking I can type after a full day of school and work, and yes I watered them after it was pointed out.

  2. Winter says:

Holy shit, all of my names are taken. I use some pretty obscure names, too. That is surprising.

(Edit: or maybe ArenaNet is just trolling me. “Levanten” isn’t acceptable? Really?)

    1. Mersadeon says:

Blacklight Retribution is even worse in that. I think they actually ARE trolling. Not only was Mersadeon taken – no, Mersadeon7130 was taken.
Really? Someone picked a name THAT specific?

      1. Aldowyn says:

I am pretty sure I have literally NEVER had my name taken by anyone other than myself. (there have been times I forgot I tried my game or I somehow managed to break an account or lose all access to it somehow)

        1. Zukhramm says:

Funny thing happened to me in WoW. I made an alt on the opposite faction I normally play. I hadn’t told anyone the name of the new character or anything, but as I walk through the race’s capital someone named “Zukhram”, only one m, walks past me and waves at me!

That is the strangest thing that has ever happened to me in an online game, probably.

    2. Fim0458 says:

I used to use the name Fim for all my online games, it wasn’t taken for anything most of the time, then all of a sudden ponies. ponies come along and now Fim is taken for everything, because it’s a shortened verson of Friendship is Magic.

  3. Chargone says:

    ahh… i want this game…
stuff keeps conspiring to delay my acquisition, however.
let’s see.. couple of weeks to pay off the tanks and motorbikes, another to pay off the books (ordered Witch Watch and How I Learned, as the other thing i was waiting for before i ordered stuff from amazon finally came out so i didn’t have to pay more than one set of shipping)

    so….

expect to see me in-game sometime late next month, i guess (if non-preordery-type people have access by then. don’t know how big that head start is).

gives them time to patch stuff at least.

  4. Mari says:

    Why didn’t I read this BEFORE I picked Yak’s? C’est la vie.

    1. Josh says:

Right now, you should be able to switch servers for free. I haven’t tested it because I don’t want to screw up the guild by server hopping, but it’s what ArenaNet said they’d do until guesting was implimented.

      1. Nyctef says:

I’m a different server (EU) at the moment, apparently you can still do some cross-server stuff though. Let’s try this..

Edit: Ok, it can’t find either of you on my server, so looks like that’s not going to work at the moment.

      2. Hitch says:

I made a character on a different server as soon as I realized I could sign in last night. After playing for a couple hours, I noticed this post and server hopped (for free) to Henge of Denravi and joined the guild. Both servers were American — I’m not sure if transferring across regions will work.

  5. Deadyawn says:

I might join up. In a few weeks when the holidays come around and I can actually afford to sink some time in to it. Til then I will have to go, sadly, GW2-less. Hope everyone else is having fun with it at least.

  6. Keredis says:

You can be a member of two guilds at once, yes?

    1. noahpocalypse says:

      Yup.

  7. Zaxares says:

I can’t even get in at the moment. :( The login servers are overloaded and it seems a lot of players can’t even log in to start playing. I’ll send an in-game mail once I do manage to get in though.

    1. Lovecrafter says:

So this whole “The game client is unable to gain access to the login server at this time” thing is just the expected rush of new folks overloading the server? At least, I hope it is, because I don’t want to get into this port-forwarding hoodoo business…

Anyway, I’ll try and get you guys in my sights once I manage to get in :p

      1. Zukhramm says:

Nah, it’s just the servers. Great to see that we still can’t have a stable MMO launch.

I thought I’d just continue work on my HoM, but the original game must use the same server, at least for logins, because I can’t get into that either.

  8. Entropy says:

Pre-purchased…but my physical copy hasn’t been sent to me. :( I’ll join you guys when I get it.

Edit: Well, shit, nevermind then. It arrived as I typed.

    1. Jarenth says:

That’s incredibly specific. Are you sure the postman hasn’t got your house bugged?

  9. dovius says:

This is the point where one starts regretting not pre-purchasing, right?

Oh well, still managed to get a 1-day headstart by pre-ordering, so expect to see my annoying ass appear on monday.

Actually, quick question, but does anyone here have any information on how the lag is if you play on a NA server from Europe?

    1. Stormkitten says:

I’m doing this. The lag has been pretty bad, but even the US people I was playing with were getting it. It wasn’t bad in beta, and I think it will be fine once the new game rush has worn off.

Edit: Can’t get in at all now, of course, since more US people woke up and overloaded the login server.

  10. Entropy says:

Goddman it, should have pre-registered. This Creating an Account is nightmare.

Enter Serial Number: Error! Repeat 10x.

    Then finally get to Creating an Account. Error! This is where I am now. ;_;

    1. Wintermood says:

The Account Service seems to be borked at the moment. Luckily, I did all the necessary steps yesterday.

Err… And I will not rub salt in your wound by telling you how much fun the game seems to be. :)

      1. Entropy says:

Welp, I’ve made an account. So now, obviously, I’m unable to log in. VIDEO GAMES!

  11. Sagretti says:

I was logged in, I was playing, I was finally beginning to figure out what I was doing… and then the game kicks me out for no reason, and won’t let me log back in. Now I remember why I usually avoid launch days.

    1. l3f4y says:

Same here. You know, I’ll bet Josh just broke the game somehow.

      1. Lovecrafter says:

They should’ve done Cuftbert tests instead of stress tests ;p

        1. l3f4y says:

I honestly think that the best way for any devs to QA-test their game would be to have Shamus and Co. play it.

          1. Michael says:

Yeah, but then you’d just keep turning up bugs that NO ONE ELSE WILL EVER ENCOUNTER. Because that’s how Josh rolls.

            1. Josh says:

You know the worst part about this problem I have (allegedly) created?

I can’t even play Guild Wars 1 right now! Their log-in servers are down too! How am I going to finish my Hall of Monuments?

              1. l3f4y says:

I would feel your pain, but I’ve lost all the account information to my GW1 account and therefore can’t get any of the nice linking bonuses. :(

In all seriousness, that does sort of suck. It would be nice to do something productive (well…at least…sort of productive) while the servers were down.

              2. TheZooblord says:

Ouch! Good luck finishing that Hall. Are you going for 30 or 50 points haha?

I was at about 0 points in July, and just got to 31 a couple days ago. Along the way I fell in love with the game (GW1), which had always kind of lost me in the past.

Kinda sad to see it so dead this weekend. 1 district in Kamadam, with exactly 2 people in it. Wow lol.

Who am I kidding, back to my norn elementalist! WHEEE

                1. Zukhramm says:

I’m so glad they didn’t put any title I’d actually want at >30.

  12. Mr Compassionate says:

My firewall settings are apparently keeping me out, then I got in for 10 mins of not knowing how to play, then I got a connection error tried to get back in but apparently my firewall is keeping me out again even though I was JUST PLAYING a second ago. But my firewall says its letting GW2 through and turning Avast off makes no difference.

I guess the servers are not prepared or something, even though this is day 1 what exactly were they expecting?

    1. Sagretti says:

It’s definitely a problem on their end. I was logged in and playing fine without doing anything to my network set up, and now I’m getting the firewall message. They’re actively working on it at least, and I’m not particularly surprised they’re running into issues. I just hope they comp pre-purchase customers some free gems or something to compensate for the early access problems, since they can’t comp play time obviously.

    2. Nyctef says:

Yeah, there are a ton of errors which “might be” due to your firewall but are just the servers being overloaded at the moment. And I’m sure they knew the sort of server load they’d get but the problem with buying enough hardware for Day 1 is that you’ve spent waay too much for the rest of the year.

Edit: That said, it seems to be impossible to log in at the moment, which is a tad annoying

      1. Vipermagi says:

Making sure launch day doesn’t explode is insanity. Player drop-off tends to be pretty large (perhaps in part due to server issues, paradoxically), so you’ll have tons of useless servers.

  13. Grampy_Bone says:

Whoo hoo! I picked Henge of Denravi!

I was able to play the game just fine last night, now there are login and lag issues? Well I hope it gets ironed out when I get home from work tonight.

    1. Grampy_Bone says:

Oh, it appear everyone else I know is on Yak’s Bend. So it appears you and I shall be enemies, Eikosi!

  14. Reach says:

I’m a student with very little MMO experience (never got past level 70 in WoW) and next to no experience working with any kind of guild. There would also be long periods where I couldn’t play very much, or at all. Would I still be able to join the guild, and, if you were nice enough to answer yes to that question, should I join and take up a spot that could be used by a more dedicated player. How skilled/dedicated are members expected to be?

  15. Zak McKracken says:

Just one question about the game (not your server): Does GW 2 use DRM, and if yes, what kind of?

Obviously, since it’s an online game, you need to be online, so presumably you’re tied to some sort of online user account. Is there anything on top of that? I just spent about half an hour looking on the webs but could not find anything…
[queue link to the obvious place I overlooked]

    1. Grampy_Bone says:

There’s no DRM in the sense that you don’t need a disc or anything, but there’s little point to CD checks for an online game. The client is extremely portable; it can be copied and pasted to any machine you want.

      1. Zak McKracken says:

That’s good news then. I was kind of concerned the game might tie itself to one computer or somesuch

  16. HiEv says:

Shamus, just recently (July), updated this site himself. See this series of posts about it:

    This Dang Website
This Dang Website II: The Dang-ening
This Dang Website III: Dang Harder

  17. Mr Compassionate says:

So im really new to this, when you say to whisper you, what do I whisper to you? What do I say to get into the guild?

    1. Chargone says:

and is ‘whisper’ different from ‘pm’ or ‘tell’? (used for real-time one-to-one messages no one else can read in various other games)

  18. Skyy_High says:

Servers have been relatively stable throughout today. I know this because I’ve been on almost all day. The one persistent issue seems to be that the auction house and mailing systems are consistently screwed up, but other than that the last 24-ish hours have been a blast.

  19. Daimbert says:

Ah, so GW2 has launched. Let me check my schedule:

Hmmm, so there’s TOR here, and then Skyrim, and Record of Agarest War, and Dragon Age: Origins … carry the one …

So, I’m looking at being able to start playing it in February. Huh. Well, at least the launch surge should be over by then [grin].

  20. JPH says:

It’s okay guys, I’m a member. The guild is officially cool now.

    1. Muspel says:

      Phew, that’s a relief.

According to guild chat, we’re going to start negotiating labor deals or something, just like a real guild.

  21. stratigo says:

I look forward to being able to stab you in WvW.

  22. Deadpool says:

Now if I can just get this game to run for more than 5 minutes before crashing to desktop…

  23. AllenFromMars says:

Well, even tho I’m a college student on a budget, I splurged on guild wars 2. I’m kicking myself because halfway through the creation of my Norn I was like, “wait a second, I’m still all Norse’d out from Skyrim!!”

My build is not optimal, but hopefully after talking to some of the more knowledgeable members of the guild I can get it straightened out.

  24. Joneleth says:

I got Guild Wars 2 just now to join Eikosi, aaaand the server is full. Great :/

    Advice?

    1. Chris says:

I ran into the same problem as Joneleth. Is the Eikosi League going to support guild members from other servers (which might be possible according to the stuff I’ve read)?

      1. Muspel says:

You can join guilds that are on other servers and use guild chat, yes. However, you won’t benefit from the various guild upgrades unless you’re on the server they were purchased on (these are things like armor with the guild crest on it, temporary exp/karma bonuses, the guild vault, and so on).

  25. Jeff says:

This post needs to have a Guild Wars 2 tag. I found it by following the tag, and then “the next post” link.

…of course, I found it NOW, after I’d already joined another server last night…

  26. KMJX says:

Was finally able to get the game.
Sadly Henge of Denravi is full, so i can’t join your server :(

Does the cross server stuff work now?

  27. Nathon says:

Is this guild still going? If so, how do I get in? Neither of the characters mentioned in the post can be sent mail.
