I wonder how hard it was to find that old TV. It looks like the sort that would have had the separate dial for UHF. Those things are actually getting to be pretty rare. I haven’t seen one in over a decade.
My thoughts while watching this: This is utterly brilliant. Yet I can’t help wishing the music was different. Retro 8-bit music would have been much more fitting. But maybe the music was the point? Like, a music video? Beats me. Honestly, I don’t know why the internet keeps making me these awesome things.
Experienced Points: Go Back To WoW
Stolen Pixels #184: Dead Faction
My final shot at Red Faction: Baboon.
This was a difficult game to cover. It was silly, but it was always complicated silly. The plot was full of goofy stuff, but I didn’t want to have to explain the premise before deconstructing it. Like the plot itself, the jokes would need too much setup for too little payoff.
Saints Row 2 had a great system for adding gangsters to your party and dismissing them as needed. I’m not sure why they didn’t include that feature here. It would have made the combat a lot less aggravating. Sometimes I wanted more helpers, but I couldn’t attract any. (Okay, there was really only one time when I wanted help. And that was when I was making this comic.) Other times I wanted to work alone but ended up doing a lot of babysitting.
They need to extract the good parts of RFG with a scalpel and transplant them to a more viable game.
Spoiler Warning 16: Ham and Squid
Shamus Plays: LOTRO, Part 12
This is the episode everyone has been telling me I must do, since the start of the series. Here it is, the installment where Lulzy’s crumbling sanity is demolished for your amusement. You heartless jerks.
Spoiler Warning 15: Art Collectors and AA Guns
Again, I apologize for the crappy audio. The little tone you hear just before I talk is actually my Ventrilo client. It makes a sound when you begin and end talking. It’s never shown up in a recording before, and now all of a sudden it is? It’s amazing that of all the crazy tech that goes into making this – the game, the video editing, the streaming – it’s the audio that consistently gives us the most trouble.
We recorded episodes 14-16 all at once, so we have one more episode of difficult audio to get through. Hopefully we’ll get this issue worked out.
Secret of Good Secrets
Sometimes in-game secrets are fun and sometimes they're lame. Here's why.
Starcraft: Bot Fight
Let's do some scripting to make the Starcraft AI fight itself, and see how smart it is. Or isn't.
The Death of Half-Life
Valve still hasn't admitted it, but the Half-Life franchise is dead. So what made these games so popular anyway?
Best. Plot Twist. Ever.
Few people remember BioWare's Jade Empire, but it had a unique setting and a really well-executed plot twist.
A Lack of Vision and Leadership
People fault EA for being greedy, but their real sin is just how terrible they are at it.
Megatextures
A video discussing Megatexture technology. Why we needed it, what it was supposed to do, and why it maybe didn't totally work.
Stop Asking Me to Play Dark Souls!
An unhinged rant where I maybe slightly over-reacted to the water torture of Souls evangelism.
id Software Coding Style
When the source code for Doom 3 was released, we got a look at some of the style conventions used by the developers. Here I analyze this style and explain what it all means.
Artless in Alderaan
People were so worried about the boring gameplay of The Old Republic they overlooked just how boring and amateur the art is.
Diablo III Retrospective
We were so upset by the server problems and real money auction that we overlooked just how terrible everything else is.
