New reader this morning, added to favorites. Thanks for doing these! They’re great!

  2. New reader and instant fan. Love the comic!
(I also really dig your WP theme. Is it wholly custom made?)

  3. Shamus says:

Yes, my theme is custom. Glad you like it. :)

For what it’s worth: I have a halloween motif going right now. I’ll probably switch back to the normal color scheme on November 1st.

  4. I love the use of the dice for the comments. I’d love to use that for my company site once it’s up (it’ll be WordPress-powered); is that something you’d share? Email me.

  5. Marmot says:

Not as extreme as past ones, and well so since it’s a Halloween one! Much merry to you too :)

  6. Thank you again, Shamus. Happy Halloween from one Irish gamer to another.

BTW, if we ever meet up at a con, the first round’s on me.

  7. Ubu Roi says:

“Yeah, I knew Shamus back when he only had 100 readers a day…heck, he was smaller than Steven, back then! Who knew he was destined to become the Glenn Reynolds of Middle-Earth?”

    — me, October 2007.

  8. Grey Harp says:

Truly fantastic, thank you for so many laughs. I can’t wait to read the next instalment. Episode seven was genius and as for Dave and his unlucky dice rolls, well my name is Dave and I DO roll badly, I swear it’s true. Keep up the brilliant work.

    Cheers
    Dave :-)

  9. Me says:

Great stuff! My favorite is still the one where Leggo Lass joins.

    Meow!

  10. Snakebait says:

Just found this site. Class. “Was that supposed to be in-character?” I laughed so loud I woke up the cat.

  11. Soni says:

Seven Keepers of the Ring… There are nine… Nine Keepers of the Ring maybe? DX

  12. haashaastaak says:

This one is so simple and yet so to the point. This is not just vintage D&D talk; this is true for any group of people trying to name themselves.

  13. Volo says:

Haha, why Halloween and not Helloween?

  14. Phenix says:

Love it. You forget the lovely lady, Legolas in your title.

  15. Liz says:

Just arrived. Wonderful!! Bookmarked and will return and return …

  16. Philippe says:

Excellent work Shamus, laughed till I hurt! 25 years of DM-ing and I’ve come across just about every situation you describe, ya nailed em perfectly!

  17. Lou says:

I’m utterly amazed that writing “Gay” over some DM speak made me laugh until I literally pissed myself.

  18. Joe-sauce says:

Dude, this is our game exactly Lou. I’m so glad you told me about this site. Its like keith/keith again.

  19. Andrew_C says:

Heh. Reminds me when our party named ourselves “The Magnificent Seven and a Halfling”

  20. Elkie says:

I love this comic… I’m re-reading it and I still laugh at the jokes.
Also, this is great D&D promotion. I was already curious about the game, and now I’m getting frustrated at not finding a D&D group in my city…

  21. JJR says:

“Just call me ‘The Dude’, or ‘Duder’, y’know…”

    -The Big Lebowski

  22. Damon B says:

I’d have opted for “Force Nine from Rivendell”.

  23. Filcha says:

After a few episodes where I was fairly quiet, I laughed VERY LOUDLY here.

    been there, done that…

  24. ZwergWade says:

… Seven … Nine … reminds me of “Seven of Nine” ;-)

  25. JD says:

Not always, but a good amount of the time, when I and my friends played, we were anything but “a group” .. more like ” a bunch of people going in the same direction to fulfill the same quest and maybe help out each other when we needed it.”

  26. Nate says:

This is kind of out there, but is the “Seven Keepers of the Ring” a reference to three of the band Helloween’s more successful albums? It’s the only thing close that I know of…

    – Keeper of the Seven Keys I & II
    – Master of the Rings

  27. phil says:

my connotation to this name would have been the band Therion’s song “Seven Secrets of the Sphinx”.
Great site, I love the campaign retrospectives!

  28. 'Tana says:

This is so like the group I used to play with. Now, to get another group started. Small towns.

  29. cheesebunny says:

Im afraid my little yaoi-twisted mind immeadiatly thought ‘the bunch of ringers’

  30. Eredale says:

Lawl^^ Anime fans here… Awesome comic dude! I sorta played D&D on my PC. Alone though XD Anyways very good!

  31. Morthius says:

I laughed so hard I think I left wet spots on my chair!

  32. K says:

I’m partial to “The Legion of the Ring” myself.

  33. Tachi says:

“The Bunch of Guys of the Ring”
    LOL
This is the strip I always remember. Definitely my favorite.

I’m also partial to “The Legion of the Ring.” It just sounds stomp-on-your-throat tough.

    1. WJS says:

It sounds badass, sure, but then you remember that a legion is typically composed of several thousand men, and half a dozen guys calling themselves a legion starts to seem a bit silly.
