Zenimax vs. Facebook

This series explores the troubled history of VR and the strange lawsuit between Zenimax publishing and Facebook.
MMO Population Problems

Computers keep getting more powerful. So why do the population caps for massively multiplayer games stay about the same?
Revisiting a Dead Engine

I wanted to take the file format of a late 90s shooter and read it in modern-day Unity. This is the result.
Project Button Masher

I teach myself music composition by imitating the style of various videogame soundtracks. How did it turn out? Listen for yourself.
The Gameplay is the Story

Some advice to game developers on how to stop ruining good stories with bad cutscenes.
I would like to second fried potatoes for number one.
“The award for 6th place will be shared by Resident Evil 5, Left 4 Dead 2, Plants vs. Zombies, and Zombie Driver.”
I believe that should be “8th”. Not to nitpick.
Bah, #2 beat me to it!
No, I think it’s deliberate.
Not to mention that this year sees the requisite “top 10 games of the decade”, where the only titles worth playing seem to be Half-Life 2, Halo, Resident Evil 4, Grand Theft Auto 3 (or some iteration thereof) and additional option varying from publication to publication.
I’m instead trying to do a retrospective through each individual year, but man is that tough. Especially since Wikipedia’s list of games from 2000-2006 or 2007 is missing a lot of games.
Your title is misspelled, and you are the top Google result for “requsite.”
Maybe that was the idea? ;)
If it wasn’t before, it is now ^_^
And for some reason now my brain has free-associated its way to Shamus’s article on behind-the-curtain retcons while DMing. I…don’t know.
I dunno about a top ten, but a short list of some of the cool things about this year…
–Dickens Christmas Fair.
–I *can* make tasty lasagna.
–Got my violet protodrake in WoW (and thanks to Shamus for giving me the kick I needed to actually sign up for the game last year)
–Brand new computer to replace my ~7 1/2 year old clunker.
–I look great in a bowler hat
Thanks for another year of blogging, Shamus! I look forward to the next!
Basketball Stars is a 2-player basketball game created by Madpuffers, the developers of other popular online sports games like Moto X3M and Football Masters.
There are no words to describe how much I appreciate all the time and insightful information you have given me. Your reliability as an inspiration is greatly appreciated.
Another year ends, another list! It’s interesting to see what games resonated with everyone. Makes you wonder what criteria folks use. Are they rewarding innovative gameplay, or maybe just forgiving of bad parenting decisions from the developers? Seriously though, some games are so frustrating you feel like you’re failing as a player-parent. Let’s hope next year brings titles that are both engaging and less likely to induce rage quits.
