UPDATE: Well, that was fun. I think we learned that the stream should feature a single conversation-piece game, not an attention-dominating multiplayer one. The conversation essentially halted once the Left 4 Dead Game got going.
Next time we should also make sure to have a ready list of stream-ready games. Exiting a game causes Livestream Procaster to kill the feed. Then there would be five minutes of dead time while we haggled over what we should play next. This is exacerbated by the fact that Procaster is dumber than a box of white crayons, and has all sorts of infuriating eccentricities.
We’re learning as we go. I just realized that we’re sort of inventing new ways to interact. I mean, I’m sure we’re not the first people to have a “party” like this, but it’s the first time any of us has participated in one. We all know how a LAN game works. We know how a chatroom works. We know how vent works. But once you start linking things together the old assumptions go out the window.
Also, sorry about my abrupt departure there at the end. Real Life intruded, as it does.
We’ll try another one of these in a couple of weeks, at a different time, on a different day. Thanks for showing up. Hope you had fun.
–End Update.
The stream is tonight! Stop in, chat, watch Josh play videogames, eat candy. (Candy not included.) The URL for the party is:

Shamus Plays LOTRO
As someone who loves Tolkein lore and despises silly MMO quests, this game left me deeply conflicted.
What is Vulkan?
What is this Vulkan stuff? A graphics engine? A game engine? A new flavor of breakfast cereal? And how is it supposed to make PC games better?
Could Have Been Great
Here are four games that could have been much better with just a little more work.
The Truth About Piracy
What are publishers doing to fight piracy and why is it all wrong?
Lost Laughs in Leisure Suit Larry
Why was this classic adventure game so funny in the 80's, and why did it stop being funny?
T w e n t y S i d e d
A handy time zone reference for otherworldly folk.
Thumbs up for this feature in the next installment.
Is it going to be recorded? I missed about a half hour and I can only stick around for another few minutes.
I second this question.
Trying to watch it, but my crapping internet is making it quite the challenge.
I think Rutz’s livestream channel will record it. Not sure.
Yeah, it will. I’ve watched some of his streams late since they’re stored on the channel.
The bulk of the recording is here.
11AM, much better start time as I can stay here all day.
That worked much better when it was just Josh playing Civ V. After that, things got hectic and too thought out, rather than friends talking with other, more different friends eavesdropping.
Had an awkward moment when Chris’s stream suddenly jumped back to the footage from last week. The two of them just fit so seamlessly together, I didn’t even notice the transition, not even when Shamus and Mumbles suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Then I started getting some serious deja-vu, and began to wonder if the entire group was engaged in some massive coordinated trolling effort, recreating the same chat they had last week. I only realized what was going on when Chris began playing Tribes, and I felt so stupid.
apparently it is now over… look forward to more next time.
Well, that was funsies since I was actually a dude at the place doing a thing this time.
Doing a thing? During L4D you did THE thing!
It’d probably be more accurate to say the Tank did the thing.
Congrats on beating your best time.
Me, Frankenstein, Nothing, and Sethar talked until about 4:00am… Damned interesting discussions too.
I’m afraid this ran too late for me to participate in any meaningful way (3:00 AM when you have work the next day? No thank you,) but from the stream, it sounds like it was fun.
Also, in the interest of contributing something meaningful: Civilization V’s Harald Bluetooth actually speaks Danish. I was like “what the hell” when that guy popped up on screen.
That was very fun and surprisingly insightfull, even though I had to sign off soon after l4D started (it was nearing half past four am here).
Re: stuff that was discussed. I’m confused at the whole games not earning enough stuff. I mean, I’m not in the industry, I don’t follow the figures but far as internet rumours go I’m starting to detect a pattern:
-Amalur: from what I heard, actually sold more units than EA anticipated (and I’m kinda willing to believe that seeing how undermarketed this game was around here) but that was supposedly not enough.
-Prototype 2: if they declared it a flop even before the PC version was released I can only imagine how much below predictions the sales so far were
-TOR: on this one I’ve actually seen some press release that it’s the best selling MMO in history (by first month sales or something like that) while at the same time hearing that the sales were “below expectations” and actually the rumour mill brought me a phrase “would have to sell two or three times as many units”. I do realise with MMOs it’s more about keeping the playerbase paying, which TOR supposedly has problems with, than initial sales but still
-I don’t really follow news on this one but I noticed a headline to similar effect on Max Payne 3 and I’m already starting to hear something vaguely along the lines “more interest in the auction house was expected” about D3, though again, that’s mostly grapevine…
And on top of that there’s just so much blameshifting. It’s piracy, it’s second hand sales, it’s the economy, it’s the devs being good at making games but not at selling them… that last one is my favourite because it’s not like these titles came from a 3 guys indie studios who were blinded by their love of the project and had no idea about the market realities.
I guess it is kind of hard to keep an insightful discussion going when you have up to four people screaming in your ear about infinity zombies.
I was going to post something along the lines of ‘it could have been worse, it could have been Trapped Dead’, but then I realised that that might actually have worked better due to the slower pace of the game. Who’d have thought there were circumstances in which Trapped Dead is better than L4D?
Thats why we were telling you to pick less engaging games.
That was a great time. Looking forward to the next one (but first Mass Effect 3 has to start). XD
I’m sad Mumbles had to skip, but there’s always next time.
I forgot to comment, but this was great, it’s always nice to be able to listen and chat about video games from the comfort of ones most padded chair
I’m sorry that I missed this, as it sounded like a lot of fun. I’ll try to make it to any others that you put on, but I’d rather you get Spoiler Warning off the ground first.
I vote more Civ5 next time. I’d ask for total war but feel that itd interfere with the lets play somehow. I’m always for a strategy game with insurmountable odds.
With raging barbarians this time.Much more fun (for the audience) that way.
Aw, I absolutely adore Total War, I really think it could work. I’d love to talk about that series too
Where did Rutscarn go suddenly?
