Steven on the gigantic animated breasts in the otherwise serious Divergence Eve:
Fact is, I’m proof that they made the right decision. I think the show would have been better if the breasts had been more realistically sized, but if they had been I probably would not have watched it. Aargh…
The fan service got me to watch the show. But how many people who would have enjoyed it will skip it because of the fan service? Aargh again!

I love mechas. I like good stories. But even if my wife was willing to sit through this, I think the breasts would undermine the plot at every turn. It’s like watching Hamlet enacted entirely by Playboy bunnies*: The story is grim and intense, but nobody is going to take the thing seriously in this context.
* Assuming this has not already been done.
Batman: Arkham Origins

A breakdown of how this game faltered when the franchise was given to a different studio.
A Telltale Autopsy

What lessons can we learn from the abrupt demise of this once-impressive games studio?
Wolfenstein II

This is a massive step down in story, gameplay, and art design when compared to the 2014 soft reboot. Yet critics rated this one much higher. What's going on here?
Quakecon 2011 Keynote Annotated

An interesting but technically dense talk about gaming technology. I translate it for the non-coders.
Crash Dot Com

Back in 1999, I rode the dot-com bubble. Got rich. Worked hard. Went crazy. Turned poor. It was fun.
They made a very good decision in showing the 11th episode first. If the lousy CG doesn’t send you screaming from the room, you will probably be hooked.
But damn, those bazongas are distracting!
It’s an excellent show with really stupid fan service. But the characters are what make it a really great show for me. I could watch an hour of these women just playing checkers if it meant being in their company again.
If it were strip checkers, I’d PAY to watch an hour of them playing checkers.
Well…yes, you WOULD pay. I doubt ADV would release the box set of “Divergence Eve: Strip Checkers Attack!” for free…:-)
It’s hard for me to take this seriously. But then I’m accustomed to comparing complaints about the depictions of females to the massive amount of consistently one-sided objectification of male characters, protagonist or otherwise, throughout modern media in general, via physical, verbal, emotional, and attitudinal abuse, that I have had to put up with for about twenty years now.
I don’t watch tv anymore because I simply have no more tolerance left for constantly being shown males being treated like cheap meat for the grinder for no better purpose than the attempt to create a positive association between said abuse and some industrial product.
It’s bad enough as it is that I ever have to interact with people upon whom that manipulation actually works, and who have no real understanding of just how sick and twisted and bent it is, and who consider it normal and average.
Mega-boobs are just a meaningless little bagatelle of silly fluff when compared to the *truly* dehumanizing *standard* of abuse applied to male characters.
Well, yes, but the boobs are much more fun.
Not that I disagree about the perils of being a male on TV. We’ve gone from “Father Knows Best” to “Father Is A Total Nincompoop,” but what we’re complaining about isn’t the objectification of the female er, characteristics, but the cynical use of such charecteristics to sell an otherwise excellent show.
In other words, we’re not offended on behalf of the women — we’re offended that it worked. :-P
This anime is the spectacle of the which all movies, especially hollywood should steal their ideas from. It is truly scrumptrulescent.
