Hello everybody. My name is Ethan. I’m not new to the family but I’m new to the site so I figured I should start myself off here with an introduction. So here’s some things about myself:
I’m a millennial who grew up playing the previous generation of console to whatever was current. When I finally did catch up to what was new, I got the 360 and it red-ringed on me after a year. I started young and kept going pretty steady until adulthood. I spent plenty of time on the PC as well but mostly casual stuff and MMOs.
My favorite games are Metal Gear Solid, Dark Souls, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, Final Fantasy VII (Original), Persona 4, Ghostrunner 1&2, and Legend of Dragoon. I love many many more but those are the ones I most feel like I can always go back to and have a good time.
I mostly stick to console but play multiplayer games on PC such as: Rainbow Six Siege, League of Legends, Minecraft, Stardew Valley, and whatever game of the week is taking over Twitch and YouTube. And before any of you ask, I hit Plat 4 in Siege and struggled to hit Silver in League. I like them, but I’m not especially good at them.
I’m a big time horror movie buff. I love everything from shlocky B-movies to modern misery porn like Hereditary and the Lighthouse. If it’s horror and it’s in front of me I’ll likely find something I enjoy about it.
I have relatively recently gotten into Magic the Gathering and will likely never financially recover from it. I play a lot of commander and a bit of sealed and draft. My favorite part of the hobby is deck building around fun strategies and interesting flavors.
Lastly, I’m not afraid to have an argument or conversation about the dumb shit I write. As long as you’re not getting weird and parasocial about it, I’m happy to read what you have to say. Just try to keep it civil. I know I’m new to this role here and this site means a lot to all of you regular readers. Thank you for giving me a chance.
Push the Button!
Scenes from Half-Life 2:Episode 2, showing Gordon Freeman being a jerk.
Shamus Plays LOTRO
As someone who loves Tolkein lore and despises silly MMO quests, this game left me deeply conflicted.
Project Octant
A programming project where I set out to make a Minecraft-style world so I can experiment with Octree data.
PC Hardware is Toast
This is why shopping for graphics cards is so stupid and miserable.
Zenimax vs. Facebook
This series explores the troubled history of VR and the strange lawsuit between Zenimax publishing and Facebook.

Welcome. What are your thoughts on the Resident Evil series?
Thank you! I am a big fan of what I’ve played, but I got into them pretty late. Resident Evil 7 really hooked me in and I went back and played the original games and their remasters. I’d say RE4 original and remake are my favorites but I genuinely love all the mainline titles. I liked the Revelations games as well.
Welcome to Twenty-Sided Tale! I look forward to reading what you have to share!
Awesome! Thank you very much for the welcome.
Welcome!
I enjoy watching horror but with games I mostly experience it vicariously through others, particularly the jumpscary kind. Knowing the game is planning to startle me makes me tense in a way that is not exactly pleasant. Looking forward to seeing you around.
Thanks for the welcome! I am not huge on pure horror games where I can’t effectively fight back. I had to refund Visage because it gave me a panic attack haha.
Hi Ethan, what flavor of loser squatter are you?
Apparently I’m the kind of squatter that lives in your head. Kind of spacious in here. Very little brain matter crowding it.
Why don’t you get a hobby instead of devoting your sad life to attacking people on the internet for daring be different? Shamus’s politics were first and foremost about leaving people the fuck alone. He’d be disgusted by you.
Hello! We probably share a lot in common (if nothing else age demographics). Having a family cut a lot of my video game time…I pretty much only play League of Legends these days because I can still socialize with my friends there (and that’s where several of my millennial friends stayed).
Also I do watch a horror movie every day in October, so I guess I’m a fan there at this point.
Cool, man. Thanks for the welcome!
I’ve been watching and then posting about horror movies at my blog for years now — right now it’s one post a week on Thursdays — but the readers of my blog would note that I’m the opposite of you: for pretty much all the horror I watch, I will generally find something WRONG with it, to the point that people ask me if I even actually LIKE horror [grin]. But I started with the cheap movies that you can get at Walmart, so that might explain a lot of that. And two of the three I started with I kinda liked then and like better after a rewatch: “Family Possessions” and “Living Among Us”, and probably the best one out of my watches was the first “Happy Death Day”. I also did more or less enjoy the older “Friday the 13th” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movies, but most of the rest rose, at best, to the level of “I might watch it again at some point if I ever get around to it”.
I honestly started that way myself, but when I started watching movies just to make fun of them it made me change my point of view. I definitely still see the flaws but typically manage to find something entertaining. Unless it’s incredibly mid. When a movie is too well made to be funny but not well made enough to be silly I tend to lose interest pretty fast.
I went the other way there, too, as I was watching them more to analyze them than to make fun of them. After doing it for long, it’s so easy to see the flaws and how easy they would be to fix that I think it starts to annoy me more. Then again, a lot of that is from modern horror movies, which tend towards messing up because they try to use the standard horror tropes but don’t understand them, and so get them wrong … although a lot of modern movies themselves seem to make the same mistake.
Welcome. Do you like MGS just the original, or does your mentioning stand in for the whole series, including oddities like Metal Gear AC!D on PSP?
Are you planning to write about stuff, or just moderating us lunatics?
I’m a big fan of all of the MGS series. The original is my favorite but they’re all fun. Kojima’s storytelling is always a bit kooky but in a really charming way. I just finished Death Stranding 2, actually.
I plan on writing an article at least once a week. I’m not as prolific or well researched a writer as Paige, but I’m going to do my best to entertain you “lunatics.” :P
Hello :)
Horror schlocks and original FF7? Well, looks like we’re in for another series of interesting takes :)
Give me a topic and I’ll have a bad opinion on it. It’s a gift! But for real I know that my takes can be unorthodox at times, but I am very aware of my ability to be wrong.
Did you watch The Man In My Basement by any chance? I saw it recently not quite knowing what to expect, and it wasn’t quite what I expected at all :D Filmed in Wales apparently.
I haven’t yet but I’m definitely going to check it out now. Looks very interesting. Thanks for the recc!
I don’t find myself enjoying films a lot these days, I like to give them ?/10 scores afterwards, and the 7s and above are very few and far between, years apart even. But the 3s, 4s, 5s and 6s do usually at least give a lot to talk or complain about haha, Defoe: Basement Man, was one of them.
