My wife painted a picture doodle of me. If you came to visit me, this is what you would see. I might turn around every once in a while to be polite and see if you were still there, but for the most part I’d be hammering away at the keyboard trying to keep up with my many obsessions. Sorry for being rude. I’m just terribly busy. Please help yourself to a drink from the fridge. Or some coffee. Maybe get me some while you’re up. That would be super. Thanks.
EDIT: My wife objects to calling this a painting, and insists that it was just a quick doodle, and that I’m making too big a fuss over it. Duly noted.
No fussing.
Batman: Arkham City
A look back at one of my favorite games. The gameplay was stellar, but the underlying story was clumsy and oddly constructed.
Project Frontier
A programming project where I set out to make a gigantic and complex world from simple data.
Good to be the King?
Which would you rather be: A king in the middle ages, or a lower-income laborer in the 21st century?
Crysis 2
Crysis 2 has basically the same plot as Half-Life 2. So why is one a classic and the other simply obnoxious and tiresome?
What is Piracy?
It seems like a simple question, but it turns out everyone has a different idea of right and wrong in the digital world.
So this is what your wife sees of you?
I guess it’s just a coincidence that “Previous in Pictures” has a link to “Meet Singles”, eh?
We have more in common than I thought, then, because (with a different head) that’s me too.
Ben
For a Doodle, its Really Good. Better than most i have seen at school…
Raine
Oh, no worries. That’s pretty much what I look like in an average day, except with a few more displays around me (three normally, up to five if I have my personal and/or work laptops nearby).
That’s a nice sketch.
Is that… a CRT monitor?
Can she draw the Chainmail Bikini characters? j/k >;^)
Haha, that’s me too, even the same color of hair.
Your lucky if people even see that much of me, I’ve got 3 computers surrounding me(and 2 monitors, why would a testing server need a monitor :P) I chose a room right next to the back of the house, so I could fit a really big air con, these 3 computers really generate heat(actually, I rarely have the 3rd one turned on, my main comp and test server are all I need for developing, the second computer is for testing(since it runs a dual boot between 32bit ubuntu(for program development) and windows XP(so I can test pages in IE7, 5-6 can be tested in wine, IE7 doesn’t work right, even with the beta…))). Soon I’m going to cut this down to a single computer, it’s just a matter of getting a virtualbox to run XP without it eating around 80% of my CPU at rest.
Yup, that’s pretty much me too, except my monitor faces away from the door, so you get to see half of my face from around the side.
I suppose then that she didn’t have to ask you to hold that pose.
Just a doodle, huh? It shows real talent. She should doodle more.
That’s a pretty awesome “doodle”. But more importantly, you still use a CRT?
I have two CRTs…they both perfectly good monitors.
Not really any point in throwing them away (even my cheap Dell 17″ OEM display) considering most cheaper LCDs don’t look as good as they do anyway.
Yep, that’s me as well. Although I usually have a bit more of a slouch, since my current chair is set too low and I haven’t bother adjusting it yet.
A lot of friction in my household was eased when I went all laptop and started using the laptop in the living room with my wife. My face is visible and I am available for interaction. This hasn’t eliminated the friction, but it has reduced it to a fairly acceptable level. (And I’m not being sarcastic about that or minimizing the problem; it really has made everybody pretty happy.)
The downside is that I really can’t set aside any period of time for serious concentration. I can browse the web or maybe write a comment but programming under than scenario is impossible.
And what’s worse is that she can’t understand why. :(
FWIW, I really like it.
Artists are like that. What looks like a really cool painting to anyone else looks like a ten-minute scribble to the person who made it.
I think it’s a lovely picture, nonetheless.
I wish I could doodle that well.
Say… didn’t you once star in an a-ha video?
Hmmm, doesn’t look like me. My picture is more like… on a mountain top. With one foot on the carcass of a bear. Yeah… that’s me on any given day.
You still use a CRT? Well now I know what to ask Santa to put on your Christmas list. One Flat Panel Monitor request coming up.
I’d like to voice support and solidarity for people who still use CRTs — I know that I much prefer them for purposes of gaming, as a) Their color response is usually better than LCDs and b) I dislike having all resolutions but one look like crap.
Clint
agreed, except for the bulk, CRT’s are awesome. Greater resolution options and nice deep blacks. Cheap crt’s are way better (looking) than cheap lcd’s. I have an old 21″ crt free from work, looks great.
Of course, there are time I long for a slim lcd so that my (physical) desktop looks neater, but I like the crt just fine.
I even like the bulk of CRTs, as it gives my cats a reason to stay in my room (they like to sleep up there).
