{"id":272,"date":"2006-03-25T17:37:46","date_gmt":"2006-03-25T22:37:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shamusyoung.com\/twentysidedtale\/?p=272"},"modified":"2006-03-25T17:37:59","modified_gmt":"2006-03-25T22:37:59","slug":"subtitle-obsession","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shamusyoung.com\/twentysidedtale\/?p=272","title":{"rendered":"Subtitle Obsession"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From what I&#8217;ve gathered, most serious American Anime Otaku prefer to watch their Anime with subtitles, as opposed to watching the English dub. <a href=\"http:\/\/denbeste.nu\/Chizumatic\/\">Steven Den Beste<\/a> has been doing it for so long that he&#8217;s starting to learn some Japaneese. <\/p>\n<p>But I can&#8217;t watch shows with subtitles on.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"images\/salsf_sub.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/salsf_sub_thumb.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>As soon as the words appear onscreen, my eyes jump down and read them.  Then, my eyes stay there, waiting for the next line of text to appear.  As long as words are at the bottom of the screen, my eyes are locked down there and ignore the action above.  I have no idea why I do this.  I have to make a mental effort to make my eyes go back up and watch the show after I&#8217;m done reading.  As soon as I stop thinking about it, I go back to watching the text and not the images. So, I end up missing most of the images because I spend all my time staring at words I&#8217;ve already read. The only time I watch the show is when no dialogue is onscreen.  <\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know why I&#8217;m wired this way.  It doesn&#8217;t make a lot of sense and I don&#8217;t know of anyone else that has this problem.
