Reset Button Fan Support

NobleBear asked who they should email at The Escapist in order to encourage them to pick up Reset Button. I’m gratified by the support, and I want to make sure it’s welcomed and doesn’t feel spam-y.

Russ Pitts is the guy in charge of video content at The Escapist. His email doesn’t seem to be public, though, so I can’t rightly point you directly at him.

My suggestion is that you either use the general-purpose contact form or their contact page. Themis Media is not so massive that your input will get lost in the belly of the machine. They’re people and they talk to each other.

I don’t know how much of an effect this will have. If fan letters could affect the course of production, then we’d all be bitching about how Firefly seems to have lost its way since season 4, and totally jumped the shark this year when they added the kid genius to the crew. Instead, we’re filling the void with angst and fan fiction. My prediction is that Reset Button will sink or swim based on banal things like budget, demand, and content. Having said that, voicing your support can’t hurt.

Please be polite if you do. They’re nice people and didn’t have anything to do with Firefly being canceled.

That’s quite a contrast of subjects between beginning and end, Shamus…

    A hilarious contrast.

  2. SEGEEK says:

I wonder how many people will mis-read this and start sending hate mail to them about canceling firefly now :).

By the way I enjoyed the reset button video, but I must say Shamus your voice is wrong, it isn’t at all how I imagined it would sound from reading your blog the past few months.

  3. clouviere says:

God I wish we were all griping about the boy genius character in season 5 of Firefly.

Thanks Shamus, I had let that go. All the pain of Firefly loss and the therapy. I thought I was done with all of that and ready to move on with my life.

    cl

  4. Shamus says:

That’s the only way I can comfort myself. I think, “Even if Firefly HAD survived, it would suck by now.”

I HAVE to believe that, you see.

  5. KnottyMan says:

If we could at least get another movie and delve into Book’s and Inara’s past that would be something.

I watched Heart of Gold last night. Say good bye to your daddy Jonah. Ah, good times.

  6. Hotsauce says:

Seriously. The crew hardly needed yet another genius. The celebrity guest stars are getting a little old too.

  7. Shamus says:

I thought it was hilarious when they had David Hasselhoff as president of the Alliance.

  8. Kaeltik says:

They should never have made Inara pregnant. Totally ruined her mystique.

Plus the whole “who’s the daddy drama” is getting real old.

  9. Shamus says:

We are skirting dangerously close to fan fiction here.

No, wait… This is the opposite of Fan Fiction. It’s… critic fiction?

  10. Plasma says:

But they already had a boy genius on the crew in the first season. Well, a crazy girl genius psychic assassin thing, which is even worse, because the one thing worse than one teenage character that can solve every problem the crew encounters is one character that could solve every problem, but doesn’t because she’s insane. Also: she causes some 2/3rds of the problems in the first place. Grr.

  11. froogger says:

You’re so right, Plasma. I for one do hate that dejavu when I realize they already done something before. Like when they had Inara pregnant in e4s3, you know, the “…it was all just a dream”-episode. That was a spacemonster and not Wash, but still – what were they thinking?

Oh, you didn’t expect any serious replies, did you Shamus?

  12. Bret says:

I’m just glad the space monkeys didn’t stick around.

I mean, sure, they were great at first…

  13. John says:

Uh – Kayleigh? Okay, girl genius (no reference to the steampunk webcomic implied) with any sort of engineering: no formal education, a bit ditzy?

Firefly totally *started* with a genius kid.

  14. Illiterate says:

I always hear this in my voice when I think of that show.

“Why did Firefly have to die so soon?”

And then I cry a little because I am thinking about Grave of the Fireflies.

Also that part in the third season where Wash came back as a cyborg and his wife tried to help him regain his humanity.. I thought it was pretty trite.

  15. trousercuit says:

I liked the one last season where the Firefly C came through a rift in the space-time continuum and they had to send it back with Anya in it but that was okay because she just would have been chopped in half by a demon anyway in her past in the “right” time stream. Oh, and Firefly D is SO much awesomer than C. Why was it so boxy? Thing looks like it’s made of freakin’ legos.

Also, I still don’t get why Jayne is always the one lugging Wash’s head around in the stasis unit. I know Zoe has issues with it, but why not Mal every once in a while?

  16. Hostile says:

I disagreed with the content of your video so strongly that I wrote a post about it, but I love your blog, and I think the videos have potential. I’ll be keeping an eye on it.

  17. R4byde says:

Bah! You’re all wrong! The worst thing that happened Firefly was when they released the special edition DVD. I wanted to cry when I saw they’d Lucased that part where Mal shoots that unarmed guy he’s supposed to negotiate with. I think having him drop his pants to reveal a hidden grenade launcher was just… Well words can’t describe how stupid it was, or how traumatized I was afterward.

Seriously though, thank God it died violently in its prime while Whendon still had control of it, or it would have eventually left his control and turned into complete Shi-nitz.

  18. Bret says:

I found Mal having a grenade launcher in his pants…

well, silly, yes, but the banter with Inara was golden.

“Bring Back Wash” -> “Kill Zombie Wash”
    ————–

I could hardly believe the Season 2 finale – though I really should have seen the foreshadowing in Trash: River’s “Jayne is a girl’s name” anyone?

((Okay, that even freaks me out!))
