Two Years of Twenty Sided

Two years ago I launched this site by posting the play-by-play of our D&D campaign. I don’t think I could ever have imagined how the site turned out. My most common posting topic are videogames (199 posts) and the webcomic (145 posts).

September seems to be the time of change around here. The site started in September. I started my webomic in September. The webomic will end in September. I don’t know what I’ll do with the site next. If I want to continue my trend of writing about things unrelated to the original purpose of the site, then maybe I’ll start cat blogging next. Maybe I’ll start talking about sports or something. Ah! Even better: A daily journal style blog:

Sorry for the lack of posting. I think I’m just in a funk. Today I was kind of sore when I got up. Getting old sucks. Or maybe I’m just feeling unmotivated. I don’t know.

I spent the day sitting at the computer. I did my job, and then after that I worked on the webcomic. I also played some video games.

The awesome thing about that is that I can just post that same entry over and over, every day.

    Seriously! Stop stealing my material!

Not everyone can bring their A-game each and every time, Shamus. You’ve done a bang-up job so far, though – I thoroughly enjoy your posts on most any topic, and of course the comic – But no one’s perfect. Allow yourself some “low time”, and you’ll just come back stronger later. :)

Might I humly request another D&D campaign at some point? I know that was a lot of work for you, but you captured the entire campaign you DM’d wonderfully. I was fascinated with every post I read.

Congratulations! Your blog has been wonderful, so far. Keep doing such a good job!

I found your blog by following a link to DM of the Rings in the RPG.net, and the comic rocks. I’m also fond of your video-gaming articles.

Cheers and have a nice day.

    Matàas.

You could do the emo-blog. It’s all the rage at MySpace. You just whine and moan about everything you can think of:

The wife was mean to me today. I almost cried but sucked it up because I know she just wants to see me cry. The kids are hell-spawn. I know they can’t be mine. I think the wife had an affair with the milkman. Probably because he’s more attractive. *sob* I think said milkman is trying to kill me. I’m sure I had food poisoning today and I think it came from the milk over my All Bran cereal. Why does the world hate me? It’s all a dark abyss of loathing with crimson swirls of self-recrimination. I can feel myself slipping into the blackness.

Come to think of it, don’t do that. I think I’m onto a gimmick that might work for me. :-) Whatever you do, I’m sure it’ll be great. And if it isn’t, then people will stop reading it. Big fat hairy deal. Of course, it would be awesome if you did more gamer stuff but I’m above begging. Mostly. OK, pleassse?

I don’t post comments much, but I just wanted to say “Thank you,” because without your blog here, I probably wouldn’t have gotten back into pen and paper RPGs. Originally, I was pointed here in regards to DM of the Rings, but it was the posts covering your D&D campaign that sparked the fire again. I’ve now got a really good group to play with, and still come back here to see what you’ve got to say. Thanks, Shamus.

  7. BlueFaeMoon says:

Sweet mercy, please don’t start a daily journal! I avoid those like the plague. ;)

I don’t comment very often, but I do come here every day. (Or at least when my RSS reader tells me to.) And you might think your blog has veered away from it’s original intent, but it’s actually evolved into something much better. Really, single topic blogs are boring! ;) (which is the excuse I use for my blog -because it’s all over the map)

Anyway. Thanks for all the smiles. And for one of my favorite daily net stops. :)

That’s really riveting stuff, Shamus. In fact, a few more lines and a chorus, and you’ll be able to lauch a career into country music. A new genre, Geek Country. That might be country music I’d actually listen to. Maybe…

  9. Otters34 says:

More entries about Japanese animated series, perhaps? such as Bleach(a rather cliche option, but I like it).

  10. blizzardwolf1 says:

    …webomic? :P

  11. Shawn says:

Be sure to do a post where you talk about what you had for lunch.

The webcomic’s going to be hosted at http://www.feartheboot.com/comic/

    GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!

    Sorry… ;-)

  14. Huckleberry says:

Shawn: I think Blizzardwolf1 was requesting another “c” — or rather two — in Shamus’s text.

  15. Marijana says:

Just for your information, I’ll keep coming back even after the comic is over, because I like your (and comentators’) opinions about games, anime (I watched Porco Rosso your review), films, and basically everything else …
And during this year Unrelenting Nerdery became my catchphrase, I hope you don’t mind :D

  16. Marijana says:

    because of your review
    grrr

  17. Carl the Bold says:

I recall you said that you would keep doing DMotR until you got bored with it. Also, that you didn’t want to make money from it because then it would be too much like a job with deadlines and pressures and “such as” (continuing mad props to Miss SC).

    I think I understand that.

Now you’re doing the new comic. I hope that you’ve found a way to make money off of it while still allowing it to be fun and creative and personally fulfilling, instead of ‘too much like a job’.

I always thought it was a shame you couldn’t find a way to profit off of DMotR, so I hope that the new comic is both personally fulfilling and financially rewarding. And I spead for all your fans–both US Americans (ibid) and the “damn foreigners”. :)

    Hmm…seems better than:

The first day of my summer vacation, I woke up. Then I went down town. To look for a job. Then I hung out in front of the drugstore.

The second day of my summer vacation, I woke up. Then I went down town. To look for a job. Then I hung out in front of the drugstore.

The third day of my summer vacation, I woke up. Then I went down town. To look for a job. Then I got a job. Keeping people from hanging out in front of the drugstore.

Dang! I think he owes me royalties for that journal entry!
