Cat vs. Washing Machine

Yesterday’s discussion on a Wizard fighting a common housecat in D&D sort of morphed from a discussion of an amusing absurdity in the rules to a discussion of strategy of just what was the best way to fight a cat in D&D. This brought to mind the following video. (Note that you would still need to grapple the cat and get him into the machine, and by the looks of it that would be a two-round action.) Still, I’d give a “creative solution” XP bonus to anyone that pulled it off.

As a bonus, if you click through and watch this movie in its natural habitat on YouTube, you will see a perfect demonstration of the point made in this xkcd comic:

The internet has always had loud dumb people, but I’ve never seen anything quite as bad as the people who comment on YouTube videos.

He’s right. Read the discussion thread (actually, don’t) on that video. It’s like the source code for stupid.

Wow. I have read really bad comments before, but… Seriously, auch.

There were a few comments that even started out right, with proper grammar and all. And then suddenly they say something like “funny music though”.

    That just hurts.

  2. Clodia says:

Wow. I couldn’t even read past the first page of comments.

For that video – I do not know if it is the funniest or saddest thing I have ever seen. Poor kitty. Someone is getting their TV peed on later.

  3. Andre says:

Interesting concept for washing your cats… but what are you going to do the next time that cat needs a bath? Cats are firm believers in the policy “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice… Well you won’t fool me twice, but if you try, I’m clawing your face off.” You put that cat in the same room as that machine ever again, and you’re going to need stitches.

  4. I’m going to have to remember “source code for stupid“.

  5. Shamus says:

Wow. I can’t believe “source code for stupid” isn’t used anywhere. Like, some discussion thread:

“The SDK has several working examples, but it’s all useless stuff, like source code for stupid stuff like making radio buttons and popup windows.”

Or something like that. Nobody has said it until now. Interesting.

  6. Curt says:

You’re looking at a first generation Klingon Pain Booth – being tested on cats.

  7. Deoxy says:

“You put that cat in the same room as that machine ever again, and you're going to need stitches.”

Only if you’re a first level wizard with no spells or weapons… :-)

I was originally just going to comment to say that “It's like the source code for stupid.” is somthing I am definitely going to use.

  8. Will says:

Cat’s can be made to enjoy water, but they have to be introduced to it early and often.

I’ve seen just such a machine at the local pet place, and I can’t begin to guess what the inventor was thinking. Only the most truly docile pets are going to complete the process without traumatizing the themselves and their owners. I expect repeat business is near zero.

It’s too bad (or maybe fortunate?) there isn’t any audio from the original footage. Unless that cat is unnaturally quiet, there had to be shrieks of terror coming out of that machine to wake the dead.

  9. Karaden says:

    Poor cat.

Source code for stupid is right, I felt a good deal stupider just reading the first half dozen or so of them, glad I don’t have any tests today. Still stopped reading after that though, got to at least sort of pass collage.

Anyone supscribe to the ‘signs’ theory? That all people that stupid should be forced to wear signs proclaiming such so that others can avoid them.

  10. Shamus says:

Peer pressure being what it is, we’d all have signs by the end of the week.

  11. Telas says:

    “Republican Hippie”

  12. Telas says:

Aghk… caught by the html filter… I saw that phrase on the fourth comment or so, and still have no idea what the heck he means. About the only commonality between Republicans and Hippies is that they’re both hominids.

  13. Mrs T says:

I had a cat once that loved water, but even he would have been terrified inside that machine.

  14. Mordaedil says:

By 2008, that machine will turn into the worlds first suicide booth.

  15. Julia says:

Frak, but that’s a nasty way to treat a cat.

I’ve heard you can get moist towels pre-packaged specifically for wiping down cats needing washing. That’s a much more humane way to do it. Seriously.

  16. Yunt says:

Tragedy is comedy. It’s the worst irony of human existence.

I have cats. I’ve often thought it’d be handy not to have to stick my bare and squishy human skin in the sink with them on the infrequent occasions they need a “water bath”. That said, I laughed and cried at that video.

It’s a rare mix of horrifying and hilarious.

  17. Document says:

“This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by The Walt Disney Company”? Do they mean the music, or is there a more interesting story here?

  18. alanj says:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=vLSj83gf2K4 is the same video without the Disney music, and is still available. Or just search for Cat vs PetSpa.

  19. MikeSSJ says:

That poor kitty. She must have been terrified. As a cat-owner myself, I was both hurting and laughing at the same time.

btw – my cat tends to jump around like that without the need for water. She’s even scared of herself >_>
