Snow Day

I love the feeling when I open my eyes in the morning and the light in the room is totally different. It’s brighter than it should be, and the light coming in the window is uniform instead of directional. When I see this I know that it snowed overnight, and that the snow has stuck.

If only it had done that this week. Thursday it was in the 60s, Friday in the 20s(single digits with windchill). Love the picture.

  2. My first reaction to your picture was to look at the girl on the left and say, “Hey! It’s Cardcaptor Sakura!”

  3. Mom says:

that picture is a wow. Lucky for the photographer that daughter was wearing pig tails. Hands on the windows- “I can’t be out there right now but I’m going to get as close to it as I can.”

  4. Will says:

There are times I wish I lived somewhere with actual snow, but I’ll take 50º cold snaps over shoveling driveways any old day.

    Caption contest?

“I’m building a snow man there, and there, and over there!”

  5. Heather says:

Actually, that is pretty close. The eldest has plans to build several snowmen and an igloo before she gets her tonsils out on the 22nd. The youngest insisted that she was going to wear pigtails–probably because she thinks she looks like May in My Neighbor Totoro (if she had seen Cardcaptor Sakura that would work too. They LOVE anime.

  6. Will says:

Well, I can’t think of a better reason to do something than seeing it in an anime. :D

    …unless it involves tentacles. Ick.

Seriously, I used to live in Colorado, and I loved that hushed sound in the mornings, and I never noticed the light, but that was a great clue that it had snowed… and that crisp smell in the air.

    *gulp*

So what is it when you’re homesick for what’s not home?

Another image – ski lift in a snowstorm. Dead quiet, and almost white-out. Occasional whoops and laughter of skiers in powder intrude from beyond the white bubble… Awesome.

A story in our family went that my older sister, when she was a very little girl, awoke one winter morning, looked out the back window of the house and exclaimed, “It snowed last night!”

She then ran through the dining room and into the living room, looked out the window there, and yelled, “It snowed in the front yard, too!”
