A quick glance around this website will reveal a lot of unrelated projects that I’ve tackled over the years. There’s the book, the political satire site*, the terrain project, a D&D campaign, the movie, some Unreal levels, some game mods, a few WordPress plugins, a half-finished coding project, and now my webcomic. This place is very much the product of an unfocused mind. It’s like I’ve got ADD on a macro scale.
I keep telling myself that one of these days I’m going to settle down, pick one thing, and try to hone that particular skill. That day hasn’t come yet. There is just too much interesting stuff to do and too few days in which to do it. I do seem to be able to hold my focus longer now than when I was younger. Maybe that means I have more dicipline, or maybe it means I’m just slower.
* Note that the political site was done almost 4 years ago, back when I was still sort of Republican-ish. It may chafe those with a liberal worldview. I’ve abandoned the Republican thing for something with a more “smash the state” flavor, so there is no use in trying to debate me on positions I no longer hold. Also, I want to talk about politics about as much as I want to eat a bug. Don’t be that guy.

Why I Hated Resident Evil 4
Ever wonder how seemingly sane people can hate popular games? It can happen!

What did web browsers look like 20 years ago, and what kind of crazy features did they have?
Batman: Arkham City
A look back at one of my favorite games. The gameplay was stellar, but the underlying story was clumsy and oddly constructed.
Seems to me that your big project is your family. And sounds like that project is going fine.
The rest of that stuff is minor and unimportant; don’t sweat it.
I’ve occasionally referred to myself as a dilettante. Darn it, lots of things in this world are interesting, so why should I limit myself to just one for any particular length of time more than I actually want? *grin*
Obviously, I only know you through your website. But the impression I get is that you are an admirably disciplined and well-organized person (to be honest, only a few days ago I told someone about this blog and explicitely mentioned how much I envied your self-discipline). I mean, look at your website: a _finished_ book, a _finished_ terrain project, a _finished_ movie and a great webcomic that has now arrived at its 29th installment. I really don’t see where you lack focus. And why should you limit yourself to one project when you have proven you can also do 5?
Thanks for the perspective (Steven) and the encouragement (Huckleberry).
My general take on things is that there are those people who are organized enough to realize when something they are doing is a “project” (and to keep records of it and so on and so forth), and those people who conduct their lives in a more oblivious fashion.
Here goes the ego again! But really you done did good. You aren’t like somepeople, namely myself, that don’t even start one of those multiple projects that we all generally have in our heads. Someday I’ll get around to it.
What they said!
P.S. Some bugs are tasty.
So, Shamus, if you are not specializing how do you rate on Heinlein’s famous list? Here’s my score.
I was bounced here by a link on a page that was linked to from today’s post.
So about the political site: from the degree of mocking of Rush, Fox News, and President Bush I would never have guessed it was done by a Republican.
I know too many Republicans who tow party lines, which I think there’s no shame that; but I don’t do it.
The whole “Bush making prank calls” article is rather funny. Nice work photoshopping the phone.
Well, guess you burned away another bunch of hours of my life. I’ll have to read every article in that site too… Heh.
I agree with Chris Arndt, I would have never guessed that you favored the Republican party. I myself agree with neither party, and I’ll leave it at that.
