My fragile and child-like ego, forever insecure and paranoid, has an insatiable appetite for stuff like this. Although, I’m not sure that feeding it is a particularly wise move. It’s probably a lot like feeding gremlins after midnight. I’m cute and funny now, but just wait until I think I’m better than the rest of you. You have not yet learned the meaning of insufferable.
I’m not sure why so many people are linking to DM of the Rings all of a sudden. Has it gotten funnier recently? The sad truth is that I can’t tell. At the start I’ll have some little gem of an idea that makes me smile, but by the time I upload the final result I’ve re-arranged it a dozen times and worded the thing a hundred different ways. I’m just numb to it.
So I don’t know what the sudden interest in the thing is all about. I’ve gotten more links since Tuesday than I have in the past month. Go figure.
The other thing worth noting is that humorous video I posted the other day had almost 6,000 views this morning. If that number is correct, then it pretty much dwarfs the traffic I get here at Twenty-Sided. Crazy.
UPDATE: The next morning. Thirty thousand views. That’s just strange. It’s not like this video is sitting on the front page. Most of those 30k visits were from people digging around in search results and finding the thing more or less by accident.
Another PC Golden Age?
Is it real? Is PC gaming returning to its former glory? Sort of. It's complicated.
Chainmail Bikini
A horrible, railroading, stupid, contrived, and painfully ill-conceived roleplaying campaign. All in good fun.
The Biggest Game Ever
Just how big IS No Man's Sky? What if you made a map of all of its landmass? How big would it be?
Best. Plot Twist. Ever.
Few people remember BioWare's Jade Empire, but it had a unique setting and a really well-executed plot twist.
Megatextures
A video discussing Megatexture technology. Why we needed it, what it was supposed to do, and why it maybe didn't totally work.
Maybe it’s a “tipping point” sort of thing… just the right combination of mavens directing their interest (and, thus, the interest of a sizable portion of those who are interested in said mavens’ interests) in your direction at the right time, over time. At first it was just you, and your closest readers… one of them told a friend, who told a friend, whose site is read by a maven-type, and… the next thing you know, you’re wondering why in hell your site stats are spiking like a rookie football player who just made his first touchdown.
Or something.
Anyway, I’m new to your site, and it’s all thanks to that comic thing. Rest assured that you’re doing good work so far!
Well, DM of the Rings was featured on “Treasure Tables” (www.treasuretables.org) a few days ago; at least that’s where I learned about Twenty Sided. I really liked your blog, so I snatched your feed, and linked to you from my own blog. I will be reading!
Remember, though, a bit of cotten doesn’t equal fluff.
Seriously, the writing here is thoughtful and humorous, and the spelling is excellent. What’s not to like?
I posted both of those links to Metafilter Tuesday night.
Wow. Thanks Steven. I imagine that’s no small part of this.
Also that MeFi thread gave me a fun new word: Bowlercoaster! I REALLY wish I’d thought of that one.
As Greyduck says, it’s a tipping point thing. I saw a link, followed it, it amused me, so given that my readers will like it, I linked as well.
I’m not sure that DM has got funnier, it’s just big enough now in terms of content to be worth spreading around a lot. The first few were good, so I kept reading, and enjoyed it. Being blogswarmed can be fun, but a bit weird.
It’s spreading through Livejournal; a friend found the link in one of her friends’ journals and reposted it, I gacked it from her and reposted it, some friends on my flist reposted it again… you’ve made quite an impression! Please keep up the great work.
I’m going to blame Steven for leading me this way (though I was a fan of ‘the Lemon’ back in the day).
I found out about DM of the Rings through someone on Live Journal.
It’s funnier than most of the YouTube videos my friends are posting links to, I’ll tell you that much. :) And, geez, I’m just kinda geeky and made a crappy DM back in the day and….
You’ve been syndicated on LiveJournal, also. Of course, that means that your RSS feed will get hits, but your front page will probably slow down.
I may be coming to the party a bit late Shamus, but man I’m having a good time now that I’m here. The DMotR strip is truly inspired humour and that YouTube vid is hilarious.
Thanks
this youtube vid now has more than 2,4mil views. Amazing!
