My question is: Is the main character actually named Shamus? Because then I would totally buy a Playstation 3 so I could get this game.
My other question is: Since when do we put an “e” on the end of Noir?
Trashing the Heap
What does it mean when a program crashes, and why does it happen?
Gamers Aren’t Toxic
This is a horrible narrative that undermines the hobby through crass stereotypes. The hobby is vast, gamers come from all walks of life, and you shouldn't judge ANY group by its worst members.
Batman: Arkham Origins
A breakdown of how this game faltered when the franchise was given to a different studio.
Twelve Years
Even allegedly smart people can make life-changing blunders that seem very, very obvious in retrospect.
The Plot-Driven Door
You know how videogames sometimes do that thing where it's preposterously hard to go through a simple door? This one is really bad.
…so it can be the caring, feminine, in-touch-with-its-feelings version of noir?
:-)
The term shamus as a detective was once very obscure but is now, it seems to me, replacing the “private eye” or “dick” or “sleuth” of decades past.
I doubt if Richard Diamond was ever referred to as a shamus but as that was before my time (slightly) and I have not studied the matter, I could be wrong. Will your name become but a slang word? Maybe it will become slang meaning geeky blogger.
I always thought you were misspelling noir when you left off the e but checking my dictionary I see you have it right. It is short for the french term Roman noir, meaning black novel. Wonder why I thought it had that e.
They use “Shamus” as an insult in Brick, against the guy who fancies himself a detective.
Anyway, LA Noire is Australian. Hurrah for that!
I must say I find this somewhat interesting: that four years after the post, this game hasn’t been released yet. I was like, “hmm, how did I miss that one? I love noir!” and then I followed the Gamespot link and discovered that it’s not due out until Q1, 2011.
I shall now hesitantly follow the production of this game, and hope for the best. Fortunately Rockstar is pretty solid.
