This comic actually went up on Friday, but I was too busy being Christmas’d to link it.

  1. Overwatch, the equal opportunity vehicle of the future.

  2. Jordi says:

    I like it! :)

Actually your new Experienced Points also went up without you commenting on it.

  3. Shimmin says:

Nice comic. A bit surprising, though, I didn’t think you went in for bad language much, Shamus? I don’t remember seeing much elsewhere on the site, anyway.

    1. Shamus says:

Shimmin: “mingebag” is the default player name in Garry’s mod, which is what I use to make the Combine comics. It’s a bit of an in-joke for people who play it. I’d never heard the word before that and I don’t have a sense of where the word falls on the profanity spectrum. So for me it was like cursing in another language.

  4. Sesoron says:

I hope you don’t mean to imply that evolution is a religion with that last panel, Shamus! :p

    1. Shamus says:

Sesoron: The Darwin fish has sort of been adopted as a symbol of Atheism. And Atheists take their beatings along with everyone else.

If you have any further complaints about the holiday card, you can protest in person at the Overwatch Public Relations and Pacification Centre.

  5. krellen says:

    “Seasons Beatings” is brilliant.

  6. Sesoron, only that evolution won’t get you out of your beatings.

No, the players are supposed to have fun. Remember?

Don’t you wish more designers would remember that?

Though I must say that the new LFG on WoW has given me some incredibly good play experiences. I’m frankly amazed by them.

  7. MintSkittle says:

Test posting from my new iPod Touch. Seasons Beatings to all!

  8. Danath says:

    Politically correct beatings, love it!

    Season’s beatings to you all!

Also good Experienced Points article, I pretty much agree with most things that are said there. God I hated trying to figure out all that stuff in regards to grouping, I really do wish it was a bit more streamlined in some fashion for those kind of things, or if the quest was “updated” to become soloable by lower levels (something wow did which for alot of quests, which impressed me. On the other hand wow won’t let me fly through stupid Dalaran which I don’t find all that majestic or interesting, as they try and and throw their designers orgasm in my face by refusing to let me speed through their dumb city, which I don’t find fun or interesting to look at).

  9. SoldierHawk says:

I just love the idea of these badass, evil, repressive soldiers having an “outreach officer” to administer proper religious beatings. Well done Shamus!

  10. Yar Kramer says:

I giggled. I feel guilty for doing so. But I still giggled!

But this kind of “outreach program” would probably make a dystopia like this seem even more diabolical.

  11. betty says:

The Darwin Fish made me smile. It’s nice us atheists finally getting some representation! And beatings! Like… oh wait.

    Crap.

  12. chad says:

I would consider it an excellent (desired if not expected) $HOLIDAY present if the last panel were to be made into a high-quality background image.

    Pretty please.

  13. SatansBestBuddy says:

Because I have no idea how to respond to Tweets without getting a twitter account myself, I’ll just post this here:

If you really hate your new video that much, then get rid of it.

I mean, it’s only one wasted day, working on one wasted project, which translates into one more day working on one more project that WON’T be a waste cause you can plan and avoid the problems in the wasted project.

  14. Shimmin says:

Shamus: That’s about what I guessed. There might be a difference in use in the States, like with a few other swearwords. Over here in Britain, ‘m***e’ is a variant of the c-word, though not one I hear often these days. I’d personally put it at about the same level of profanity, and it might trigger some filters if people are reading at work.

  15. glassdirigible says:

Finding an uncontested symbol for atheism is no easy task. As a group that is defined by a lack of something abstract and has no unified front otherwise there really isn’t one.

Replacing the fish wouldn’t be too helpful and even if it did, it would still face the objection of labeling atheism as a religion.

Thank you for the effort to include us in the beatings, Shamus. I would hate to feel left out.

Christmas’d. I now have a verb for the joys and tribulations of Christmas.

Love you you write Shamus. Fight the good fight.
