Sent out some geeky Christmas treats to some friends. Didn’t want to post these images until they’d arrived.
First, some cookies:
But the real fun is the Sushi:
The insides are white chocolate and coconut. (But a few were made with white chocolate and rice crispies. We experimented a lot.) The orange bits are dried mango. The seaweed is some kind of fruit by the foot, covered in dark chocolate with a little green dye.
These were fun to make, and probably a more suitable gift than mailing out raw fish.
The Gradient of Plot Holes
Most stories have plot holes. The failure isn't that they exist, it's when you notice them while immersed in the story.
Steam Summer Blues
This mess of dross, confusion, and terrible UI design is the storefront the big publishers couldn't beat? Amazing.
Batman: Arkham Origins
A breakdown of how this game faltered when the franchise was given to a different studio.
Batman: Arkham City
A look back at one of my favorite games. The gameplay was stellar, but the underlying story was clumsy and oddly constructed.
Bethesda NEVER Understood Fallout
Let's count up the ways in which Bethesda has misunderstood and misused the Fallout property.
Best sushi ever!
But how do they taste?
They taste tasty awesome! Thanks for sending some to The Escapist office Shamus.
Good for those with seafood allergy
Ooh! Those are excellent. My wife isn’t big on seafood, but these might make fun treats.
Did you chocolate-coat the fruit by the foot yourself? If so, I’m guessing you wrapped first, then chocolate coated…
And vegetarians!
Awesome.
Dang, now I want to make something like this!
I like the fish-shaped dried mango, but it does give me the impression that either whoever made them had never had actual sushi (less likely) or they just wanted to really sell the impression that “this is supposed to be fish” and to hell with the details (more likely). I’d love to see a recipe for this, anyway.
My son has a recipe for sushi in his Twinkie Cookbook. Involves dried fruit, fruit roll-ups and (of course) Twinkies.
Reminds me of the Thorax Cake and other fun receipies from

I did this a couple years ago. I made a bunch of green brownie batter (a St. Patrick’s day recipe) and poured it into a pan that I’d set a bunch of tall, skinny shot glasses inside of. The batter pours around them leaving holes. After they finished cooling I pulled the glasses out and then stamped around them with a cookie cutter so I was left with a brownie ring and not a lot of wasted “brownie holes”.
I filled the insides with buttercream frosting and then stabbed slices of chocolate and caramel into the center so it would look a little like a california roll.
It looked less like sushi than yours did, but holy crap did they taste good.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I totally squeeed over this. So incredibly cool and nerdy! (And tasty…just ate a Starman cookie. Much yum.)
kudos
Nice. I especially like the looks of those ghost cookies.
Dangit, now I’ve got an inexplicable and random hankerin’ for some cheap grocery-store iced cookies. It will pass once I remember how disgusting those actually are, appearance aside.
I don’t like sushi, so i just lost my appetite when you said it was weird lookin-sushi sweets!!! Lol, still very clever of you, hope everyone is enjoyin their holidays so far! :D
A restaurant I went to a couple years ago had a little buffet in it that was part of the meal. One of the things I saw was what appeared to be tuna rolls. I love sushi, and tuna, so I grabbed a few.
That wasn’t tuna. Was actually strawberries. It really was quite tasty. Unless you thought it was tuna and put some soy sauce on it. Like me.
these are so incredibly cool I can hardly contain myself :D in fact, I’ve sent the link to a bunch of friends, so I guess I didn’t really contain myself ;)
seriously, just so cool and dang creative!
