The Gradient of Plot Holes
Most stories have plot holes. The failure isn't that they exist, it's when you notice them while immersed in the story.
Silent Hill Turbo HD II
I was trying to make fun of how Silent Hill had lost its way but I ended up making fun of fighting games. Whatever.
A Lack of Vision and Leadership
People fault EA for being greedy, but their real sin is just how terrible they are at it.
A Star is Born
Remember the superhero MMO from 2009? Neither does anyone else. It was dumb. So dumb I was compelled to write this.
Autoblography
The story of me. If you're looking for a picture of what it was like growing up in the seventies, then this is for you.
“In the real world, justice is blind. In the superhero world, justice wears a bike helmet and drools on itself.”
I’m going to be laughing about that line all damn day.
Technically, foes in City of Heroes are “arrested”, not killed.
Of course, how you arrest someone by hitting them with a broadsword is a question players are still trying to answer.
(Insert witty comment about G20 protests here)
Arrest It With Fire?
Now I’m imagining that statue of Lady Justice with the scales, the sword, and a bike helmet and an expression of immense stupidity.
@Yar: You didn’t already see her that way?
I already suspected that justice wore a bike helmet, especially the civil courts, but it’s always good to have it confirmed. Also, you made me need to clean my monitor again. I would hate you for all the coffee spews you’ve caused me through the years if I didn’t love you so much for them.
@krellen:
Actually the term used in CoH is almost always “defeated”. I think the intent is that allow you to decide if they’re dead/arrested/beat up and left a bleeding wreck.
I always figured that heroes in CoH had a system tied to their medical transporters (which keep them from being killed) that teleports their fallen foes to the Zig.
And technically, in CoH, you don’t necessarily have to defeat, let alone fight, all the enemies between you and whatever it is you’re after; most of the time, you can just click the glowing object and, if you don’t get interrupted, you complete the objective. (Oddly, hostage rescues can be completed by simply defeating the two guys guarding the hostage; never mind that there’s still a small army standing between the hostage and the way out.)
Verbose and aesthetically pleasing oblique phrase to imply the politically sensitive word “retarded.”
I’m impressed.
@Rick W: What you say!! They have to move the villains to the Zig? For great justice?
I don’t buy you killing them as you mow them down.
If you do the seemingly randomly generated “Help A Citizen” quests, they always say that Gang X was arrested!
Arrested!
How you arrest them with a gatling gun, horrifying gun-katas and a rocket launcher I can’t tell you, but I can tell you that they’re only dead if you decide you killed them. I know I always picture my heroes taking them out non-deathly.
Except for the robots. They don’t just mysteriously fall over, those guys explode. Which is as bad a crime to me, seeing as how the cowboy robots (for example) are still perfectly sapient.
@Lintman: I’m sad to say it took me three times reading that to get it. So used to thinking of “Zig” in its City of Heroes context (i.e., Zigursky Prison).
@Rick W: Heh, I haven’t played CoH, so at first I thought your mention of Zig was an obscure AYBABTU reference. I had to google it.
Was my post deleted?
Mmmmm. Donut filling.
