Pat Robertson: Please Shut Up

UPDATE: Whew. I broke the first rule of blogging: Don’t Post Mad. Under the cold light of morning this seems a little… unhinged.

Ah well. Angry screed below the fold, but also pictures of robot ninja girls in panties.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. â€" Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says God told him storms and possibly a tsunami will hit America’s coastline this year.

Here are his actual quotes:

“If I heard the Lord right about 2006, the coasts of America will be lashed by storms,”

If God was talking to you, you would know it.

“there well may be something as bad as a tsunami in the Pacific Northwest.”

What is the “may be” crap? That’s Psychic Friends talk. It doesn’t work that way. You’ve either got the word or you don’t. Moses didn’t tell Pharoh, “God might well do something bad at some point in the next year.” He had details. He had testable predictions. That’s the point.

If you predict that Seattle, WA will be hit with a level x tsunami on June 23, and it happens, then we know you’re the man. If not, we know that you are a lying, money-grubbing, sanctimonious fool who should be ignored.

I only point this out so people don’t get the idea all Christians are behind this fraud. When people are quiet, it’s like an endorsement. Just so we’re clear: I’m not with him. He’s on TV because he’s very good at televised panhandling, not because we’re funding him.

Sorry for the non-geeky post. More anime and videogames tomorrow. I’m going to purge the image of Roberson from my mind by watching Najica again. Just because I bet it would annoy him. In fact, how about a round of Najica for everyone? Here, have some robot ninja girls:

  1. Yeah, baby! Robot Ninja Girls in White Panties! Life doesn’t get any better than this!

  2. Evil Otto says:

The only thing that would be better is if the robot ninja girls in white panties fought pirates.

  3. hank says:

Nothing like a little pantie-fu to fight away the sanctimonious fool.

  4. Bogan says:

I forget which town it was supposed to be but wasn’t Robertson the one that also said that God will not help you anymore and to get your help elsewhere? Such a cheeky moron.

  5. . says:

I can agree the man’s a fool, but I don’t agree with the business about being quiet is an endorsement. The only people I know who pay any attention to Pat are leftists and atheists. If I were off my rocker I’d suggest he’s a Rovian plant, just from some ingenious Democratic tactician (there must be one, right?).

  6. Wonderduck says:

…and Penguins. Robot Ninja Pirate Penguins.

    Panties optional.

  7. Penguins in panties just doesn’t play for me, but whatever rocks your boat.

  8. Wonderduck says:

That’s why they’re optional. Some people might go for that sort of thing, and I don’t want to demean their obsession by not being inclusive.

    *pause*

Yeah, you’re right, that sounded really stupid.

  9. Register says:

Hey, I really like your ideas and I share a lot of common interests with you. After reading your “about myself” part I know about a forum with an intelligent and diverse population that you might enjoy partaking in. If so, e-mail or MSN me at residentrutkowski @t hotmail d.t com.

  10. AndrewNZachsDad says:

See, now, Shamus, you’ve confused me. Is the Register post a spoof, or spam that slipped thru the cracks? You really can’t do this. I will lose sleep this weekend.

  11. Shamus says:

I have no idea. I didn’t notice it until today.

  12. NobleBear says:

Pat Robertson is an embarrassment to any Christian who has their feet planted on the ground. He has virtually reduced apologetics from “Behold, I stand at the door and knock” to “Please understand, not all Christians are dicks”.

Ninja robot babes rock. So do Anime chicks with guns.

  13. I think a major reason that the “quiet” Christians don’t speak out against people like Robertson is that we don’t want to look like jerks either by starting a shouting match…

Favourite Christian webcomic ever, ASBO Jesus. (ASBO stands for Anti-Social Behaviour Order in the UK, it’s sort of like a restraining order against doing specific acts). http://asbojesus.wordpress.com/

  14. Davesnot says:

I still remember 2 things about Kindergarten.. those big, red, cardboard blocks.. and C. Dowd’s panties at nap time..

hmm… did I really just post that?

  15. merkavah12 says:

    Correct as always, Mr. Young.

  16. anaokulu says:

Very nice great article thank you…

  17. Gamefanatic says:

    Wat episode is this

  18. Feanor says:

Let’s be honest: anyone who hears “divine messages” is just a little bit crazy.

  19. Sentinel says:

Don’t worry about the rant, or posting while mad.

If a guy’s preaching starts to sound like a cross between a fortune cookie and a tabloid horoscope, I think that perhaps a bit of ranting may be in order…
