Stolen Pixels is taking a break from Left 4 Dumb. In the meantime, please enjoy this look at some back issues of Gamepunx.
Twelve Years
Even allegedly smart people can make life-changing blunders that seem very, very obvious in retrospect.
Stop Asking Me to Play Dark Souls!
An unhinged rant where I maybe slightly over-reacted to the water torture of Souls evangelism.
The Brilliance of Mass Effect
What is "Domino Worldbuilding" and how did it help to make Mass Effect one of the most interesting settings in modern RPGs?
The Disappointment Engine
No Man's Sky is a game seemingly engineered to create a cycle of anticipation and disappointment.
Tenpenny Tower
Bethesda felt the need to jam a morality system into Fallout 3, and they blew it. Good and evil make no sense and the moral compass points sideways.
“I might be over the legal limit but I can still deliver 1,500 words on Duke Nukem Tycoon, which I’m pretty sure is what I’ve been playing this week.”
Fantastic.
I’d subscribe to Gamepunx, but I fear I’m not nearly hardcore enough.
Finally, you’re using Travis Taylor to lambaste the gaming media with your wit as I demanded when you first introduced him. I shall call off the hit.
(Edit) Magnus: I think Gamepunx target audience are those who aren’t hardcore, but merely wish they were.
You know how they say girls love bad boys? I’ve always disagreed with that sentiment until Travis came into my life… ;-)
I love the new comic, love the notion of Travis as a real reviewer and Gamepunx as a real game mag.
Only now you’ve got your work cut out to create a REAL gamepunx.com website.
Perhaps you should turn it over to your readers to create, a collaborative solution to fashion an elaborate spoof mag.
I like your thinking, Henebry. The monetary possibilities are endless! I wonder if it is illegal to sell subscriptions to non-existent magazines.
R4byde — Most of us get magazines we never subscribed to (along with little cards begging us to please start paying for them), so I think from a karmic standpoint it would not be a problem.
I’m pretty sure it is. Maybe you could have the “subscribe” page have a randomly-generated/humorous/obviously-fake error message whenever someone tries to give their financial information (hint: if you actually make the forms, don’t actually have them send said financial information over the internet, even if it is then discarded).
I third (fourth? sixteenth? one hundred thirty-seventh?) the idea of a “real” Gamepunx website.
While I like the idea of a silly ‘subscribe’ page, I had another idea. I admit it might be crazy, but…if someone wants to spend money, why not direct them toward a place where it would be useful? Specifically, I’m thinking that there should be a page with a link to Child’s Play (keeping with the game theme and all), and a message along the lines that if they like Gamepunx that much, why not donate to a gamer charity? I suppose the page could also be a collection point and someone handling the site would forward the money, but that could easily go pear-shaped.
I hope that’s not too convoluted, my brain’s not running at full capacity today…
While ya’ll are planning fairly absurd projects to do for free, I really really want the Star Wars/Leisure Suit Larry crossover.
So get right on that. K? thx.
The world really, really needs Duke Nukem Tycoon. Acceptable if it’s about 3D Realms the zombie company, excellent if it’s about ordering pig-men and bikini-babes about.

Re: Duke Nukem Tycoon bug report
I purchased DNT a month ago, and I’ve got a problem. I recently started the “Duke Nukem Forever” research tree. IT seems bugged… it’ll research up to 90%, generate a “DN4Ever will be finished next turn” message, but next turn the research not only isn’t finished, it’s back down to 20%! What gives?
I’m curious to know where you got the source image for that Oct 08 Gamepunx cover, Shamus. :D
Zaxares: It’s concept art for an MMO of some sort. I actually made that cover in Oct 08, and the name of the MMO has long since escaped me.
You did the “sexy bitches” cover as concept art for a paying job? What did your wife say?
haha. “March 09 (Or close enough)”
That is awesome..
I like Travis Taylor. I want to see more of his magazine. Neither he nor I are made up in any way at all.
you all need to get laid you nerdy gamer types gargle balls
