We’re watching the Bethesda press conference!
EDIT: A done: Fallout 4 DLC looked good. Dishonored 2 looks good. Prey looks interesting. Elder Scrolls Online still exists for some reason.
See you tomorrow for Xbox, PC gaming, and Playstation streams.
Project Octant
A programming project where I set out to make a Minecraft-style world so I can experiment with Octree data.
What is Piracy?
It seems like a simple question, but it turns out everyone has a different idea of right and wrong in the digital world.
A Lack of Vision and Leadership
People fault EA for being greedy, but their real sin is just how terrible they are at it.
Steam Summer Blues
This mess of dross, confusion, and terrible UI design is the storefront the big publishers couldn't beat? Amazing.
Object-Oriented Debate
There are two major schools of thought about how you should write software. Here's what they are and why people argue about it.
So… good news! Skyrim is finally coming out for PC!
But is the PC version getting console mods? I don’t want to be left out.
No, but if you own the legendary version or the normal version + all addons, you get this enhanced version for free, according to Bethesda’s Twitter account
Edit: At least I don’t assume there is cross console modding :D
I was making a joke. But it is good to know I won’t have to pay for the remaster
I thought I was being trolled because the URL only says PS4 and Xbone.
On the other hand, I don’t own any DLC aside from Hearthfire so I guess I am being trolled by Bethesda.
Looking online, Bethesda seems to have quietly dropped Battlecry (that boring looking MOBA from their presentation last year). Must be why we didn’t see anything about it this year.
I think I know where they funneled those funds to…
I’m curious to see how Fallout 4 will use the HTC Vive. It doesn’t seem like that peripheral lends itself well to walking around.
I really really really don’t want to immerse myself in a world with gigantic mosquitoes and roaches, Super Mutants and Ghouls in it.
I really think we’re going to get a completely different variety of games for VR once it takes off.
The bigger problem is Bethesda managing to deliver a steady 90 (or 120) FPS with no drops, something absolutely required for VR to work right. And considering the problems the game already has even on hardware like the Titan X… I’m not so sure I trust them to do so.
Not to mention that, even if they do get it that smooth, your typical Bethesda game has the character moving way too fast. (Though I suppose running the game in Vive will help)
Nvidia’s 1080 which was announced last month purportedly gives twice the performance of a Titan X specifically for VR, due to new technology specifically made for VR like parallel rendering for multiple screens. Radeon also says their new graphics cards will have tech to optimize VR, so that technological hurdle is being jumped as we speak.
Edit: Oh, you probably mean how competent the port is, which, fair enough, I got to give ya that one.
No matter how powerful your hardware or how many fixes you apply, you never get a completely smooth Skyrim experience.
True, but hey, maybe this will force them to make an optimized engine in the future.
“See you tomorrow for Xbox, PC gaming, and Playstation streams.” Decided to skip the ubispft stream than? Not that I blame you Ubisoft press conferences are painful to watch.
I believe in the stream that Josh actually said they’d most likely skip the PC one, but maybe I’m remembering wrong or they changed their mind.
I thought everyone’s reactions to Prey were interesting, because I had a very different one. I wouldn’t say I was excited, but the trailer certainly had my attention, right up until the point where monsters attack and the protagonist has to shoot them with guns. The instant that happened, it completely lost me, it felt like the game was showing its true colours (or lack thereof, all the literal colour drained out of the game the moment we got to combat). “Oh boy, another grey-brown game about shooting aliens, just what I wanted. I bet it has regenerating health and two guns and a cover system and zzzzz…”
I dunno, Arkane is still working on it, so I’d be surprised if it was a rote shooter without any mechanical depth. Plus, Shamus tweeted late yesterday that apparently Chris Avellone has been working on the game in some capacity. If anything, I’m shocked how perfunctory this first night of E3 was.
So in the span of a year Fallout 4 will have been announced, released, and had all DLC (Two actual story expansions and a bunch of settlement griblets) fulfilled before Bethesda moves on to something else.
Is anyone else getting a weird vibe from how fast this is moving? It’s like they’re getting it out of the way as fast as possible.
Apparently the protagonist of Prey is customizable (on gender, at least – not sure if anything else is or if it’s just ‘there is one female and one male character model’, though the one they showed doesn’t exactly look like you’d expect from someone named Yu). Which leads me to a question: how does one go about showing that in a trailer, anyway? I’m not sure of the best approach, but I don’t think “don’t even bother” is it.
