Self-Balancing Gameplay
There's a wonderful way to balance difficulty in RPGs, and designers try to prevent it. For some reason.
The Strange Evolution of OpenGL
Sometimes software is engineered. Sometimes it grows organically. And sometimes it's thrown together seemingly at random over two decades.
Dead Island
A stream-of-gameplay review of Dead Island. This game is a cavalcade of bugs and bad design choices.
Grand Theft Railroad
Grand Theft Auto is a lousy, cheating jerk of a game.
The Best of 2018
I called 2018 "The Year of Good News". Here is a list of the games I thought were interesting or worth talking about that year.
I have to admit, I lol’d at that, especially the punchline, which (apparently) is the point of said punchline. :)
Hee! I love these pieces of yours, but I have to admit I’d still like to get a WiiFit. ;D
Angie
Oddly: every time you write about the WiiFit, I think “I should get one of those…”
I got one.. Now I’m a Ski Jumping Professional.. I’m in the “normal” range.. so it’s not quite so bad.. my wife gets the “over weight” treatment.. and her Wii (Avatar) swells up after her “Body Test” (weigh in)..
I say, get it.. really.. my kids from 3yo .. to me.. at 43.9 years old (but sometimes a Wii age of under 30!) all love it.
And Shamus’ comics are dead on.. which makes the thing even better.
I do wish the redundant clicking was taken out of it.. once you’ve been trained what the things mean it gets old to be told again and again… and yes, Wii, I know I can use you to weigh other things.. quit telling me how to do it!
Anyone else having flashbacks?
“Look at you, Hacker. A pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors. How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?”
*rolling so much* My family owns Wii Fit, and yes, the Wii Balance Board is a pesky, annoying little creature. Like Dave said, this stuff fits. No pun intended. ;)
