Stolen Pixels #63: Terribly Mysterious

Hey! It’s yet another comic about Fable 2!

(I’ve noticed that the total number of comments over at The Escapist doesn’t really change that much if I leave the comments open on this side. It seems there are some who are glad to take the conversation over there, and some who never will. So, I’m leaving comments open. I dislike splitting the conversation in two like this, but it’s better than blocking half of it off.)

That was hilarious, but, as someone has said, your writing is a tad bit funnier than your comics.

  2. Xpovos says:

I’ll pad the ego, since you’ve given me an opportunity. “Valley of Your Family is Murdered” filled me with a particularly perverse form of glee. Quite probably because I’m re-playing Dragon Quest IV.

  3. K says:

I expected something else: 1. Panel: explanation of travel route, then five panels of different horrors followed by a sixth one where she drinks coffee with the NPC since she ported in three weeks ago just after you left town. But “Mysterious, isn’t it?” is a great line nontheless.

  4. DaveMc says:

Great, now I have to write a comment over here to say that I left a comment over there, thanks a lot Shamus. :)

  5. Cat Skyfire says:

You forgot the Road of the Treadmill, where you can run for hours and not actually make any useful progress…

  6. Al Shiney says:

Loved the map and the multiple iterations of “Banditburgh”. One cannot help but wonder if, given his physical proximity to another “burgh”, Shamus may have had some corollary between a real place and his fictional constructs on his mind. After all, Banditville, Banditton, or Banditbury would have been perfectly suitable alternatives.

Oh and Shamus, you could have added Upper and Lower Banditburgh as well. ;-)

  7. Robyrt says:

Little Banditburgh is a very British town name. If Albion were in America, it would be New Banditburg or Banditburg Park. :-P

  8. asterismW says:

Ha! Loved the city names, especially Valley of Your Family is Murdered and Valley of Annoying Topography.

  9. ClearWater says:

Wasn’t there a Valley of Annoying Topography in Mass Effect as well?

  10. Shamus says:

Wasn’t there a Valley of Annoying Topography in Mass Effect as well?

Yes. It was located between “Opening Cutscene” and “Closing Credits”.

  11. Zaghadka says:

Levelton, Next Levelton, Grindville, The Cathedral of Fedex.

“Valley of Your Family Is Murdered” was an LOL for me.

  12. Wil K. says:

“His superpower is that he’s mysterious?”
    “Terribly mysterious!”

I enjoy the Mystery Men reference.

Though at least a nod to the fact that the bitch could have just teleported would’ve been nice….

  13. Groboclown says:

I think this relates to the whole video game tropes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VideogameTropes), but I’ve never seen anything there on this aspect of video games. The closest is Adventure Towns, as a TV trope (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AdventureTowns).

  14. JKjoker says:

I think there are too many fanboys in the escapist, when 80% of the posts are “wow, you rock so much ass, have my baby!!” i barely read after the first page, zero punctuation comments come to mind, there is no point trying to read them they are a bunch of wasted keystrokes

  15. DaveMc says:

@Groboclown (what the hell is that at-sign doing there, anyway? I’m following local custom, but damned if I understand why we @ people):

Maybe also relevant here is the Sorting Algorithm of Evil. From the TV tropes article: “Mount Doom? It’s right over there, but you have to go through the Hills of Moderate Evil, which are themselves on the far side of the Forest of Slight Peril. No, the Plains of Perfect Safety aren’t anywhere near there.”

  16. Johan says:

    Fellow tropers? :D

  17. Zaghadka says:

    @ == attention

@@ == Imperial walkers have entered the system, prepare the ion cannon.

  18. DaveMc says:

@Zaghadka: Ah, so it’s like “the following comment is aimed @ so-and-so”? That either makes sense or I’ve been spending too much time in the unshielded presence of the Network.

  19. Zaghadka says:

Not quite. @ is a direct sub for “Attn:” It’s an “at” sign.

So you just said, “Attn: Zaghadka” when you typed, “@Zaghadka:”

People also use it as “@19,” “At post #19,” because most blog boards don’t thread. When used in that context, “@19” means “re: comment #19.”

I’ll stop boring you with pedantry now. You’ve got the basic gist of it.

If XKCD could sell many of the maps of the internet, you could sell your map of the roleplaying world.
