In which we spend about two-thirds of an episode lost, stuck, going the wrong way, or unsure of what the game wants from us. On the upside, we spend some of the time passive-aggressively insulting the Bethesda art design by praising this DLC.

Just two episodes left. If you’re following the drinking game, then you’ll remember that we’re keeping track of how many people the drinking game would have killed. (Every time the drink count is high enough to produce fatal alcohol poisoning, a fresh player is introduced.) As of the start of this episode, victim #6 is just reaching the point of severe motor impairment. I’m really hoping we can kill them quickly and perhaps kill one more before this season ends. It might be a bit of a stretch, but I’m pretty sure the final episode is an extra-long one.

My hope is that through perseverance and virtuous industry, Josh’s potty mouth can end the life of that sad seventh bastard.

A bit of a stretch? Shamus, by now we should all have complete faith in Josh’s ability to kill things, especially where there is heavy drinking involved.

Also, why isn’t the Shishkebab counted on the OP item acquired tally?

    1. Deadfast says:

That must be rectified immediately! Would you happen to remember when it was acquired?

      1. Kilt'd says:

Episode 19 – Stop Calling Me Mungo at 01:01. Josh creates it at his Workbench in the Tenpenny Tower Suite

  2. 4th Dimension says:

I loved the confused intermission. Especially the part where the rest of the cast AFKs (Shamus probably to get some tea, and Ruts to wiki the quest).

EDIT: AGHAHAHAHHH I miss typed my email and again got sad avatar instead of my own. Browser or site not saving my nick and email is starting to fray my nerves.

    1. Daemian_Lucifer says:

Its the site thing,it remembers for no one,for some reason.Thats why I saved it in notes,so I can easily copy them back.

I loved Josh trying to fight the tesla coil with his sword.

      1. Dave B. says:

The site doesn’t remember my info, but my browser does so I just have to type the first letter of each and it autosuggests the rest of it. Still annoying, though.

  3. I wish you’d told people that one of the reasons Josh murdered everyone in the Ultra Luxe casino was copyright/patent violation. I mean, this episode shows he invented incinerator cuisine long before those guys in the kitchen.

Though I’m not sure what license allows you to kill an offender. Is there a rather draconian version of the Creative Commons license I haven’t seen?

  4. Chamomile says:

It’s funny, because I actually have the exact opposite opinion towards the poor saps getting bumped off by the drinking game so regularly. I look at #6, who I call Fred, and I’m crossing my fingers and thinking “come on, man, you can make it!” I’m at least fairly confident that Greg should be safe.

    1. Nordicus says:

Greg might be safe, but he won’t be fine. He and Fred are best friends, damnit! It changes your life when you see your friend drink himself to death before your very eyes.

      1. Ciennas says:

So, what, this show is an eldritch abomination? A random person is selected and drinks themselves to death uncontrollably, following certain obscure rules while they watch the show compulsively?

The way you phrase it, there’s a house where all the selections occur, or it jumps to population centers like a virus.

There’s a scary movie in here somewhere.

        1. Paul Spooner says:

A scary indie movie, with scary shaky-cam.
Running through the woods, trying to get away from the Spoiler Warning.

(To the tune of Creepy Doll)
          And there’s a drinking game.
          It always follows you.
          It’s got a ruined plot
          that’s always open.

          And there’s a drinking game.
          It always follows you.
          It’s got a bottle mouth
          to swallow you whole.

  5. The Rocketeer says:

I think “virtuous industry” may be the least accurate possible way of describing Josh’s play style. :p

Also, the Brotherhood of Steel didn’t “just fix” Liberty Prime. If what I remember about it is true, the American military never could get the damn thing to work due to power consumption and distribution issues. The Brotherhood’s feat was engineering a solution to efficiently power the thing, which is both more impressive and interesting than anything to do with Project Purity. Which isn’t exactly praise, but there you go.

    1. newdarkcloud says:

Remember that the Brotherhood also completed Liberty Prime with Doctor Li’s help, and she left the Capital Wasteland shortly after you took control of Project Purity.

      1. Klay F. says:

Oh god, now that you’ve reminded me about that, its almost a statistical certainty that she’ll appear in Fallout 4. Damn You!

        1. lucky7 says:

          This comment aged well. :)

      2. The Rocketeer says:

I’m willing to believe that Doctor Li as actually very good at what she does, and that the reason she never got Project Purity working just fine is that James was in charge of the purifier.

Li: “Doctor, we don’t need devices to “store radiation,” that’s not how the purifier works, and we especially don’t need them in the control room, that’s just-”
James: “Silence! We’ll get it working, we just need a unicorn’s fabulous horn, which will grant permanent youthfulness to the basin! OW! I tripped on my labcoat again!”

  6. impassiveimperfect says:

‘Who Dares Wins’ is the motto of the SAS (and others). You mean none of the 2011(?) Spoiler Warning cast had served with the British military, or were military buffs? I am terribly shocked and disappointed! I don’t…I don’t think I can watch SW anymore.

And I’m sure I had something else to say, but I forget what.

    1. The Rocketeer says:

I hate to break this to you, but I’m guessing a lot of folks are more likely to know this as a Metal Gear Solid 2 lagniappe than from an inclusive study of international military trivia.

      1. Jokerman says:

Only fools and horses is where i learnt this :D

    2. Daemian_Lucifer says:

Im actually surprised that Shamoose at least didnt remember the old “who dares wins” game. That is where I know it from.

      1. Ciennas says:

The what now? What game is this?

        I don’t remember such a thing.

      2. Syal says:

The “who dares wins” game… is that like playing Chicken?

          1. I’d say it’s more likely to be a reference to the phrase being the motto of the Special Air Service (SAS) special forces.

It’s also the name of the UK National Lottery game show, so if you want to talk about a game whose outcome is pretty much inevitable no matter what the character build is…

          2. Daemian_Lucifer says:

            Pfff,kids.Observe.

  7. kenup says:

Nice place for those switches bethesda. Shouldn’t they be outside(or at least not in between dangerous electrical fields)?

    1. Nidokoenig says:

Yeah, but if they start putting stuff in sensible places, veterans of their previous games who start looking for something with the mindset of “Where would be the dumbest place to put it?” from force of habit would be totally confused.

      1. Jokerman says:

Yea… Like me playing Skyrim for 2 months straight and never figuring out that them claw key things have the combination on them. I felt like such a dopey bastard trying to figure out the combinations by looking at the walls are carvings and eventually guessing.

        1. Neko says:

There’s actually a book in the game that lampshades this “secure combination” key practice. I forget the title, but it boils down to: it’s not for keeping adventurers out, it’s for keeping the Draugr in.

      2. kenup says:

        Good point.

I guess that’s why their fans think they are awesome at world building!

    2. Sleeping Dragon says:

The episode explicitly shows that this particular brand of electricity is completely harmless.

      1. Perhaps it is really high voltage, but low amperage?

        1. kenup says:

          From what I remember…

Once your body is part of a circuit it will act as load(resistance), Amps = voltage/resistance, so if that is of high voltage the pc should be dead, no?

          1. Asimech says:

(I’ve been sick for a week now & I haven’t thought about the following stuff since 2004 from what I can remember. So it’s all very much “IIRC”.)

If the power source has a low maximum power output, then no. A classmate accidentally held in one hand two live wires (400 volts) which should have burned, but the source had a current limit so their hand just vibrated.

It’s a whole another thing if you can pull off impressive electrical arks with a low enough current to make several thousand volts harmless. Although it’s still AC so the answer is very likely moot if you’re not in a Faraday cage. 50 & 60 Hz are the most common and both are likely to induce ventricular fibrillation (not certain if that’s the correct English term) if the current goes through your heart.

Basically your heart will start pumping in tiny, rapid and useless motions before stopping.

            Which is not good.

If you’re in a Faraday cage then the quality of that cage, voltage and maximum current basically dictate how safe you are. If it’s formed by an armour it’s most likely not all that effective. If the current is too high you might even get roasted alive inside a melting metal coffin.

            Which is less than optimal.

            1. kenup says:

Wow… that’s a lot of info(and a lot of it forgotten stuff by myself. Though I didn’t know about the Faraday Cage till now). Thanks for the clarification!

In the end, it still stands that the switches shouldn’t be there.

    3. Ciennas says:

That’s not too bad, honestly. This IS Fallout, the land of OSHA non-compliance.

I just thought the terrible switch placement was just ancient corporate irresponsibility, or that the appropriate containment equipment decayed, removed, or was in the middle of a service haul out when the bombs fell.

  8. Is that image at the very start of the episode from Fallout 3? How did you get it?

Also, getting the coil, it is possible to have enough health to take the damage from the coil if you just grab it. I found this out, and then went to see if there was another way.

    1. Prometheus says:

You can find it in the wallpapers section of the Fallout website.

      1. Thanks for that. I still have the default operating system wallpaper. I might have to change that…

        1. Jokerman says:

I haven’t changed a wallpaper since the 90’s, Gotta keep up the image of being a boring bastard.

  9. rofltehcat says:

My Little Pony background? April 1st :D
Waiting for a funny blog post… or did you just change the background? ^^

  10. Tuck says:

Loving the new background, it really sets off the content elements well. And the colourfulness works perfectly with the dice at the bottom of the page!

(the more I look at it the more I think I’m serious about this)

  11. Nick-B says:

Background needs more randomized direction facing. Otherwise, I approve.

  12. Syal says:

Didn’t notice it was ponies until i saw the tweet, but did appreciate the color scheme at first glance. I say start making MLP blog posts so we can keep it.
