DMotR Deleted Scenes 5:
And Now For Something Completely Cliché

Here it is, the final bonus comic. Gotta end with a song. If you forget the tune, you can hear it here.

I wrote this a while ago, but was never really happy with it. Thanks to the lower standards of these Bonus strips, I can now foist this on you without guilt or shame.

Edoras!

A Song!

A Stupid Song!

It really is a silly place.

  1. Babeth says:

OMG he did it. Oh no. There goes good taste.
But so hilarious when you know the context of the joke. ;-D

  2. MintSkittle says:

That was great Shamus. A silly place indeed.

  3. Issachar says:

Sorry for the lack of meaningful commentary here, but:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

  4. axcalibar says:

    Wormtongue’s a pederast, huh? I suspected as much…

  5. BlueFaeMoon says:

Shamus, this is so absolutely perfect. I will commence worshiping you as the geek god you are.

  6. GreyDuck says:

“We think Wormtongue is a pederast!”

Oh my word, this was a hoot and a half. Beautifully done, Shamus! Thank you!

  7. Luanne says:

I like how it’s “If you forget the tune, you can hear it here,” not “if you don’t know the tune…”

    Shamus knows his audience well.

  8. gahaz says:

It’s been a good run shamus, and i thank you for the laughs, i look forward to follow your views on games and the culture, and will continue in the chainmail bikini (though i have to say the artwork style has been done to death and is very par for the genre, but your writing shines through.)

  9. pdwalker says:

    HAhahaHAhaHAhaaHAhaa

  10. haashaastaak says:

    HO HO HO
    HEE HEE HEE
    HA HA HA

    ETC

  11. kRuD says:

Genius!! I’ll be laughing about that the rest of the day! :D

  12. Caveman says:

Brilliant to the last, thank you Shamus. A very silly place indeed. Now I will have that tune stuck in my head all day!

  13. Lynne says:

Thank you, Shamus, for all the laughs and teaching me that The Cat does not like it when one spits Mountain Dew out on her. She seems to think the following side-splitting laughter is aimed at her instead of the computer. (Nice thing about the getting the cat instead of the mouse pad or keyboard is that she cleans herself.)

Now, I need to go get treats to appease the Cat and hopefully save my hide.

  14. Scarlet Knight says:

    THAT…WAS…BRILLIANT!

  15. -Chipper says:

    Lynne,
I hope you are not a commoner – that cat could kill you!

    Shamus,
Don’t stop now! We’re having such a good time! We’re having a ball! Any DMotR strips you do now don’t have to worry about continuity – just about making a joke, so don’t be shy!

… oh well… Thanks for the funny.

  16. Gary says:

    That was abso-posi-loot-ly BRILLIANT!
I am so glad you posted that. Sub-par indeed. That stip will have me laughing for the next month!

    I bow to your genius!

  17. Reverend Jim says:

    Perfect.

    Absolutely perfect.

  18. Deagol says:

OMG!! 8^D That was SO hilarious! I am truly going to miss this comic. Way to go out with a bang Shamus! My days will be a little less bright now, but thanks for the great laughs!

    HAR! HAR! HARDY, HAR, HAR!!!!!!!!

  19. Amityville_Mike says:

I agree with Chipper. I wish you the best of luck with Chainmail Bikini, but if the urge ever strikes you, any “one shot” DMOTR comics would be appreciated by us all.

  20. Gammahorton says:

Perfect ending! Thanks for all your hard work. You’ve given me many laughs and I now appreciate LOTR in a whole new way.

  21. Lonster says:

After all those comments about stopping the Monty Python jokes, you lay that out out.

Heh. I know better than to drink when I read here, so…my computer is dry…but several co-workers will be reading the archives this week.

  22. Maverick says:

Oh, my, god..I think i love you shamus…in a good way of course. =D

  23. Mike says:

Heh – that led me to find this, which I’d never found before…

Yours is the best KotRT reference ever…

  24. roxysteve says:

    V. droll, sir.

However, I feel that you have not fulfilled the potential in this “Jacksonade” yet, and that talk of winding it up is premature. You are missing the obvious run through of the whole strip with the authors commentary superimposed upon the art so we can see what the DMotR agonised over at the time.

    Steve.

PS Have you checked out “MPATHG In Lego”, on the Holy Grail double disc set? My daughter and I reckon they should do the whole movie on the strngth of that piece.

  25. vonKreedon says:

Oh man..oh man…that was absolutely brilliant on its on without any context…but given the context of banning any Monty Python references ….Oh Man! You d’Man!

I am so going to miss this strip. Please please don’t ever let the domain name lapse or pull the strip as DMotR is a classic that I look forward to revisiting and turning friends on to well into the future.

  26. troy siscoe says:

oh shamus i would have yor babies if i could… plz can i?

  27. khorboth says:

And you have officially ruined my reputation with my coworkers. As I was laughing at this one, I got a “Don’t mind him. He just sits in the corner and laughs to himself all the time.” I blame you.

  28. Melfina the Blue says:

Best parody ever! (second best is the Mysterious Ticking Noise from Potter Puppet Pals)
I shall miss this comic, but am still enjoying the blog.

  29. The Gneech says:

    Chortle. :)

BTW, I officially request you post reminders for Chainmail Bikini updates, at least until I get in the habit of checking for new strips.

    -The Gneech

  30. Carl the Bold says:

    Ha!

“And that, My Liege, is how we know Middle Earth to be Banana-Shaped.”

Avast! I seem to be recallin’ ’twas at this point that Shamus said how MP jokes were like shootin’ fish in a barrel. Aye, perhaps so. That doesn’t make them less funny!

    Shamus–for the win.

  31. Tacoman says:

To think, we were nearly deprived of that. I can barely believe it. Shamus, you have truly blessed us all.

  32. Namfoodle says:

Shamus, you need to create a youtube video of this song. You just need to find some guys to sing it for you, and then play that over the screencaps.

  33. Epheros Aldor says:

Shamus, you really need to consider having this entire series published. I for one would buy the book in heartbeat just so I know that I’d have them whenever I needed a good laugh. One can never tell if these will remain on the internet, which would be a very tragic loss for all of us.

Please seriously consider this endeavor, especially with your side comments.

Thanks for all the laughs and creativity!!

~Epheros Aldor – Apostle of Cale

  34. theonlymegumegu says:

Best. Deleted scene. Evar. I wish I had more to add, but I’m too busy singing the song ^_^

  35. Carol Elaine says:

Many, many levels of love for this. Thank you again for a rollicking good time, from a non-RPG-playing Python fan who adores geeks.

  36. BXRawr says:

    Thanks for a wonderful webcomic.

    And the song kicked ass.

  37. MOM says:

finished! And just 3 days before Bilbo’s Birthday. I propose a toast to the Young boys.

As long as life and love survive
may laughter alwasys fill their lives,
the Steelers win, the dice roll fair,
and wives their lot with patience bear.

  38. DiscountNinja says:

    Shamus.

    You are god.

lol I think it’s grea tthat you spent so many strips saying that Monty Python jokes are bad things, and yet … =P

  39. corwin says:

Absolute brilliance, and the perfect note upon which to go out.

Now I go to force it on others :)

  40. Da Rogue says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

    Three cheers for Shamus.

Hip hip, HURRAY! Hip hip, HURRAY!! Hip hip, HURRAY!!!

  41. Web Goddess says:

    Brilliant!

*sigh* I’m so going to miss DM of the Rings.

  42. Mattingly says:

Fabulous. And I love the song’s presentation — the colorful musical notes, the parchment sidebars, the fantasy font, the panel layout.

    And there was much rejoicing.

  43. Sinkuu says:

    OMG…. /facepalm

    funniest “deleted scene” strip.

I’ve read this entire series at work, and have had to restrain myself a NUMBER of times from busting out laughing.

sadly, my current GM has NO sense of humor, and was slightly insulted when I showed him this.

I loved this series. I’m adding chainmail bikini to my favorites, and looking forward to the strips with baited breath.

a GREAT series. thank you again.

  44. Raycheetah says:

    Sic transit gloria DMotR…

    =-[.]-=

  45. Jochi says:

OK, this doesn’t really fit continuity at that point in the story, but below par?

No way. Which does not slight your other work.

    This is hilarious.

Thank you for giving it to us.

  46. Gelatinous Cube says:

Damn Mike beat me. That Trekkie table is just so well done.

  47. Doug Brown says:

Shamus, how is it possible that you were not happy with this? It a jewel of absolute perfection. Thanks again for all the laughs.

  48. Hotaru says:

love it… “let’s no go there. it is a silly place…”

  49. Adam says:

I think the best of the whole thing is the last panel, Gandolf sitting there with his mouth agape.

I’m still laughin 10 minutes later and now composed enough to post.

  50. wowzaa says:

Its true, the rohirrim swalow is definitely faster than the gondorian swallow

  51. Deoxy says:

This is indeed a truly funny post.

But I must say that I appreciate you pulling it… if they hadn’t gone to Edoras, we would never have had the joys of “very small walking sticks”.

    Chortle indeed.

    Heh. Hnhn. Snarf.

  52. Michael G says:

I was waiting for the “They’re taking the hobbits to Isengard!” song.

  53. Bruce says:

    Superb.

Had to check the link to remember the song and saw the star trek verson…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QSaM5gQ9vo&mode=related&search=

  54. jpetoh says:

Freakin’ hysterical! Easily the funniest version of that I’ve seen since the Lego version.

  55. Turgid Bolk says:

    Haha, great stuff.

Nitpick: Gandalf’s speech bubble should be yellow. That is, if it’s still the DM. Probably the guard, too, if you want to make it even funnier. :)

  56. ArchU says:

    Great, I’ll be singing that for the rest of the day…and I’ll prolly watch Holy Grail tonight ^_^;

  57. Vykker says:

Reminds me of Shrek 1 with the singers promoting the place.

  58. Mrs. Peel says:

    Shamus, that was AWESOME.

Also, whoever linked Irregular Webcomic from here: You suck. I’ve been reading that comic instead of going to bed on time all week.

  59. Erik says:

And of course, my first geekly thought was “But Edoras _wasn’t_ just a model.”

    Brilliant strip.

  60. Katy says:

    YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

    YES YES!!!!

  61. Mordaedil says:

    This was simply too good.

  62. Darth says:

    ROFL. Awesome.

I recently purchased Holy Grail (the extra special deluxe edition or whatever it was called) and just watched it last night!

So this song was already in my head and now I can’t stop laughing. Am doing my best to contain it so I don’t walk around the office laughing. It echos ….

  63. Doug Williams says:

If DMoTR were a porno movie, that would be…

  64. Doug Williams says:

    the… you know…

  65. Aaron says:

That is going to be completely stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Good thing I only work a half day today!

    MoM: GOOOO STILLERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  66. superfluousk says:

I put the mp3 of this song on while reading, so I could sing along. :D

  67. thebigkr says:

the end of the strip… and everyone cheered in happiness.

    *yaaaay*

  68. Ashy says:

    That sooooooo rocked!!! AWESOME!

  69. Medium Dave says:

I could still hear the music as the camera panned back from Edoras…

    Very funny.

  70. That right there, thats 14.6 kinds of Awesome!
Really Shamus, very funny indeed :D

  71. Caius says:

I can only assume that Gollem is chained up somewhere clapping to the beat…

  72. Woosh says:

    ^ lol Caius.

This is AWESOME. How come it wasn’t included in the original line up? You could have bs’d them going in anway.

    New wallpaper.

  73. John says:

You know, I absolutely *despise* most “to the tune of” parodies. But this one, it’s got something. I like it.

  74. Aires says:

Hi, first time poster, long time reader.

Sir Shamus, your work is the stuff of legend among my social circles.

    Priceless, truely priceless.

  75. Anonymous says:

First time poster, first time reader.

I’ve seen some good Camelot parodies, but this is the finest. Nothing could be more appropriate to spork it with than Lord of the Rings. Great rhyming!

  76. Sockii says:

    “Stop that! It’s too silly.”

And a fantastic end. Thank you Shamus.

  77. Lord ZYRK says:

You are attacked by a dance number. Roll for tone.

  78. Alyc says:

You rhymed Edoras and pederast. You are made of win. That is even better than “palantir-im”

  79. Jax says:

I love the sort of crickets chirping moment where they’re looking at the castle, its so perfect. Ahahaha. I almost wish this had been in their yes, yes, we likes it, yes

  80. Drow64 says:

ROTFL!!!!!! I KNEW it, I KNEW it, I just KNEW it would happen someday!

  81. Jung says:

Looks like the link to the song has been removed from the youtube society. But guess most of people know the tune, just thinking of those who haven’t seen the movie or heard the song, like I haven’t seen the Princess Bride yet.

  82. Supertulle says:

too bad the movie is gone…:(

  83. Sir_Robin says:

OMG, he actually did it! O0O HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ^-^ Love your comic, man! It’s da bomb! And I don’t even play RPGs! ^-^ Thank you for teaching me what the true meaning of RPGing is! PIZZA!!! AND ANNOYING EACH OTHER!!! ^0^ YAY!

  84. Gerry says:

Love it! But Gandalf should have had the last line!

    Gerry

  85. Oh, good, last strip. Now I can go back to studying for finals.

Er, wouldn’t “pederast” mean Wormtongue should have been hitting on Eomer and not Eowyn?

  86. Toil3T says:

    Thankyou.

  87. Binky says:

I think you missed a great thing if you could have found a picture or screen cap of someone clapping, that would have made it brilliant.

  88. Cynder says:

YES!! The best Monty Python song ever written – I love what you did to the lyrics!! Mwah!! :D

A perfect way to end a series of perfect comics. *claps* Well done!! :)

  89. nigel says:

    “best comic ever!”
-the comic guy from the simpsons

  90. SandallE says:

Ahh, I love the song (both old and new)! If I were creative and had more time, I might do a re-make of “I’m a Lumberjack” for y’all.

  91. Arilean says:

Oh my god, i’m practicly crying!
    Best.. evar. like srsly

  92. Wrathan says:

I think it’s funny the man who rides a horse by having his squire bang coconuts together considers Camelot a ‘Silly Place’.
Awesome job, I liked this version of the LotR WAY better then the movies. I mean, it’s like 10 hours of WALKING! Even the trees and the dead walk!

  93. MisLuck says:

I rofl to this endlessly. No matter how many time I read it, it’s hilarious.
There’s nothing better than to mix Monty Python jokes to RPGs. Though some of the DM has forbid it after few games here too. :(

  94. Saihyol says:

Got directed to this by a friend on the Giant’s forums (http://www.giantitp.com/)- awesome. Brilliantly done and I look forward to seeing more of your humour on CMB. First time the ‘deleted scenes’ have made me laugh at least as hard as the main film – thank you!

  95. Oleyo says:

Wow, that was a rather impressive tune! I could hear the music in my head. Clever Shamus!

  96. IronDuke says:

There were 99 posts. I couldn’t resist making it 100.

  97. Renate says:

    ROTFLMAO!
Through the whole epic in one sitting! I laughed, I cried!
Having attempted to play D&D a few times (and sucking at it), I can say this was much more fun!

  98. Rodrigo says:

    oh gods.
    this is fantastic
    beyond fantastic
oh btw. your webcomic is one of the few that actually made me burst out laughing in the history of ever.
it was a great run, i wish there was more. its kind of like seeing a friend go away, having such a great story end. it makes me sad.
    well. good show.
    XD

  99. Akameji says:

:snort: Nice! Also, random bonus points for integration of the word ‘pederast.’ Though, to be quite honest, he seemed to be more interested on Eowyn. I hope. Ew.

I don’t roleplay, but I know enough about it (and enough people who do) that this rang very true. Brilliant work, and a joy to read.

  100. Lupus_Cruor says:

oh my god, i love you for this!

  101. ERROR says:

DM: “What did I say about quoting? Minus 1,000 XP from all of you!”
Some PC: “So did we run across some wraiths or something? ‘Cause we can’t lose XP just like that.”

  102. Josh W says:

    Brilliant!

    Absolutely Brilliant!

    You, sir, are amazing!

  103. Max Romaine says:

Sir, it is with great respect and joyous rapture that I must inform you that this webcomic is without question one of the funniest, cleverest, mind-bustingly, eyeball-poppingly, tear-wipingly hilarious comic I have ever seen on the internet! (Just call me Captain Adverb!) I was feeling really lousy when I ran across this while browsing through Stumble. A couple hours later I was laughing myself stupid and praising the internet gods for leading me here. Thank you so much for making this. You have an awesome sense of humor, made all the more funny since I’m a D&D player myself. Absolutely brilliant! Bravo! And thank you again. (Cool dice, btw. =P )

  104. Kanerou says:

I am no roleplayer (though not so much by choice), so I couldn’t fully identify, but this has been a most hilarious comic. The humor – for me, anyway – dropped off somewhat in the third movie, but there were strips in the first two that had me in tears (and the Saruman dies series of strips had me telling myself to breathe). I think this is better than the movies you got it from, and I liked those. Job well done. This is going in my bookmarks.

  105. Dan says:

how about some credit to “monty python and the holy grail”,
from which you took this scene?

  106. Leyomi the Parodier says:

    Perfect. Just…. perfect.

That is to say, great idea, great spoof, and wonderful job choosing pictures. Epic win.

  107. Cassy Greyson says:

The simply brilliant part of this, was that the Edoras you see on that hill was actually built on that hill.

    AND the spoof was MAGNIFICENT!

  108. coconut says:

in the last frame they actually have HORSES! that’s bad :D

  109. Sir Robin of Camelot says:

I think “If you want to enter Edoras/You must disarm right in front of us” fits the meter better, but…that was freakin’ awesome.

  110. Rob #2 says:

That was awesome. Seriously. This deserves an award or something.

  111. Toaadam says:

You know this webcomic is just like Darth&Droids. Oh wait he based it off of this webcomic.Never mind.

  112. Old Woman #35 says:

Words cannot describe the awesomeness of a LotR and MP crossover.
WHY wasn’t this in the original?

  113. Nanorider says:

    Bwaaaaahahahahahaha!

    *cough* *wheeze* *sputter*

Oh God,that was so funny! Thanks a bunch for letting us have this one too Shamus. I think it’s the best parody of Monty Python I have ever seen. You rock! :-D

  114. Ara says:

looooooool. I thought you weren’t allowed referencing the Holy Grail? Shame! xD

  115. Venalitor says:

memorized the original… the lyrics don’t go so well when actually sung for this one, however…
    Funny… Very funny.

  116. ENC says:

    A tribute to british humour.

  117. LongTimeWatcherFirstTimeWriting says:

That was perfect. Made me laugh so hard! :-P

    –Onward, to waffles! Waffles ho!

  118. Kothos says:

Wow, only learned about this last week and just read the whole thing. This was brilliant. Perfect way to recapture the charm of LotR while remembering my gaming days. Lovely!
